This last weekend my team lost in final four, and we are not going to provincials, thus, ending our season. It was a good season though, we had some big wins and some amazing team experiences with all of my old friends from hockey, that I’ve known since I was 6.
Our year started with a Port Moody Remembrance Day tournament, which we won. The final score of the final game was 4-3 against the Vancouver Spirit, a team that we would get to know well later in the year.
The next big part of our season was K.I.B.I.H.T (Kamloops International Ice Hockey Tournament). We were placed pretty well coming into this tournament, funny enough we finished higher than we were ranked, out of roughly 20-30 teams we were ranked 8th but wound up finishing 4th. We lost in the semi-finals to POE 3-1 after being up 1-0 after the first period. The collest part of the whole trip though was playing hockey outside at our coaches cabin in Sun Peaks.
After that we continued into playoffs. We met again with our friends from the Port Moody tournament, the Vancouver Spirit. Hockey playoffs work in a 4 point series, 1 point each for a tie 2 for a win and obviously 0 for a loss, first to 4 wins.In the first game their goalie played amazing and we both came away with a point in a tie. The second game we went to their rink and won 4-2. The final game we had 3 20 minute periods with an ice clean between the 2nd and 3rd. Going into that ice clean we were down 4-1. We wound up winning that game 5-4 scoring 3 goals in 10 minutes, winning the series 4-1.
If you win your 4 point series you continue on to final 4, with the top 2 qualifying for provincials. Even though we beat our club rival for 50+ years, the Burnaby Winter Club 6-3 we did not make it.
