Welcome to this amazing post. This world we live in is so fast, don’t you think? In maker class we have been practicing filming this crazy world in all its chaos. We have been practicing filming at a live event like a sports event. This forces us to get as many shots as we can in the time limit that is the event itself. We’ve had to have a good plan, but of course anything goes since it’s live. Anyways enjoy my multiple attempts at an appealing live event video. (Some mandatory things for this video: interview, time lapse, freeze frame, Ken burns effect.)

ATTEMPT 1

OK, right off the bat this video was weird and not the best. The interview was random and thrown in there. No beginning, middle or end. Film of the movie was copyright. No story. I think this video turned out really bad because it was just sloppily thrown together. I had a clear plan, but when I started filming it sort of got lost. I guess I could blame the fact that it was a bad live event I chose. I mean a movie? It’s all dark and you aren’t able to film during it. Anyways my next draft I decided to scrap everything and restart.

ATTEMPT 2

For my second draft I had no plans for shooting going in. This was because I didn’t know I was going to this event until I was already there. I think this made it more of a challenge and I had to shoot a ton so that it could all come together in the edit. I spent a lot more time during the edit of this live event and it really shows. The one piece of feedback I got from myself was that I forgot half the mandatory things. No Ken burns or time lapses.

ATEMPT 3

I added in the ken burns effect and a timelapse into my video. This is when I got some great feedback from my teacher Mrs Willemse. She mentioned having a beginning, middle, and end. I had a middle and end, but right off the bat it starts with an interview. I was planning on fixing this for my final draft. My video also got a little crazy in the middle with lots of trippy editing, which can be good, but in this case it was distracting and confusing. I also decided to change the song because someone else in my class was using the same song as me, and I also didn’t feel like editing to the same song yet again (you know how it is). Anyways here’s my final draft.

ATTEMPT 4

For this final draft I changed the music and the whole vibe of the video. I used more simple cuts and edited it to the music. I used two bits of the interview throughout instead of just one at the beginning. I think the biggest thing I did was add a beginning that I also came back to at the end. The idea was simply “basketball”, but it gave the video meaning. I have learnt lots about filming during action filled events during this project and I really enjoyed it. I thought it was a big challenge because there’s no script and you just have to be as prepared as possible and just shoot. I thought this project also showed what numerous drafts can do. From the 2nd draft to the final draft I used the same footage. I just slowly perfected it with each draft. Since it was a live event I couldn’t go back and reshoot it, I just had to work with what I had and go from there. Anyways thanks for reading this post (or just watching the videos, either or) and be ready for an exciting post next time.

Until next time… Aedan Loughran
