The Most “Entertaining” Unit

This was our first unit in our humanities 8 class, and it was an “entertaining” one. My class was not sure how this unit would play through at all, many of us weren’t very keen on doing advertising as our first unit either. So it began. The unit quickly played out and we started learning about what makes an advertisement. Eventually, Ms. Willemse told us about a mini project we would do, involving us creating our very own advertisements. I was very happy about this because we did projects instead of tests. I mean who would want to do a test on advertising? Probably Robbie, he is always wrong.

In order to advertise our topics, we went to Oregon for a field study. It was such an exciting experience to interact with new people, enjoy the scenery of the Oregon coast and hangout around the campfires, not to mention the food was excellent. The topics I had to advertise were the Thai restaurant, Nisa’s Thai, the massive Colombia River, and an ad on making sure that you picked up dog poo. I know it is very controversial but it was an advocacy ad, it’s the law. By the time we started our project drafts, the entire class got critique, which help me thrive through the unit. Wether it was giving or gaining critique, it was always interesting looking at my classmates work.

From Robbie’s dead hashtag to the conference I encountered in Richmond with Simon, it was an exciting, challenging and entertaining unit and am glad we managed to finish it.
