Quilting is Surprisingly Difficult

This is a follow up to my first post about my groups storyboard. since you have the time, go check it out!

The Quilt that made History

After creating our storyboard for our civilization, we had to create pictures related to our civilization and quilt them together. This project was about actually creating our very own story.

Each of my groupmates, including me, were chosen a certain part of the story we had to draw in an app called ” Paper 53.” Quite frankly, everyone struggled to draw their pictures, especially me. Every draft I created was a huge disappointment for my group. With some help, I had finally managed to create an image that was admired by many classmates. My role in the story was to create a picture when Juno, the hero of our civilization, was recently shot and the people around Juno sail across the sea, admiring Juno about his bravery and courage he had for his people. You can read more about this in the story part of this blog, located above.

Now let’s talk about my picture. The image represented the boat Juno had crafted as well as the situation they were in. It involves a sunset to make the picture burst out more. It also causes a dramatic effect to the story.  Below are some of my drafts.

This was my first draft of my picture  was going to quilt. After I got much critique from fellow classmates, I ended up with this image below.

My second draft was a very large improvement. This picture was clearly telling the story better and was more basic than unnecessary. Although this was a great drawing, in my opinion, it just wasn’t good enough, so I tweaked at it a bit and ended up with my final draft below.

Now quilting is a very difficult thing to master. It clearly involves a lot of patience, which I had none, and lots of skill. Many of my groupmates were thriving with their quilts, while I was still trying to handle the basics. Eventually, I learned to quilt and began stitching. I started on the outside, sticking around my amazing image. We were taught to do tiny, miniscule stitches, but I decided to do longer ones so I could have time to do all of the other details such as the boat. I had started out really rough but eventually
