Canada. The second largest country in the world in land mass, a nation that is diverse in culture and a very well respected one too. Growing up in Canada is the best it gets. It means a lot to be Canadian, and I’m grateful that I live here. I don’t have to worry about war, famine, or any other horrible things that happen all over the rest of the globe. I don’t have to worry about what I look like, what I enjoy doing or what others think of me, because I know I’m Canadian. Being Canadian means you are respectful of others, able to help and care for people and overall be a great citizen.

Why did I go in an in depth talk about Canada? Because recently we are undergoing a project, a project created in Ontario, and brought all the way to British Columbia. The point of this project was to create a thirty second clip of what Canada is and what it means to Canadians all across the country. Our grade nine class was introduced to people who worked with the “company” that created the project and came to our school to showcase it to the class. We also created and rehearsed a quick sentence that we said on camera that explained what Canada meant to us, but that wasn’t our full video, that was just our first draft. Our sentences that we said on camera was just a rough idea of what we would eventually do. I based my sentence off of what I enjoy doing in the outdoors and what being a Canadian citizen means.

I then created a first draft video about what I said in my sentence. It was a little rushed, but it was a good video that gave a brief and well thought description of what being Canadian meant. At the time of recording, I did not understand the whole story aspect of what this video was supposed to be. I ignored it at first, and then revised.
First Draft- Here
My next and final video would talk about my great grandparents immigrating into Canada. I actually did a project on this topic in elementary school, where I explained how my great grandfather immigrated into Canada from China and how he adapted to a Canadian life. I chose to do a video on this because I felt it was a more personal video than my other one where as I refer to all Canadians. Canada’s welcoming government lets all cultures of the world to come together and live out Canadian lives. Canada lets in refugees that have been ripped from their countries, and giving them second chances in Canada. This is exactly what happened to my great grandfather that immigrated to Canada. He wasn’t living the greatest life in China, so he moved here to work and stay in a more safe environment. Without Canada having this type of welcoming nature, I wouldn’t have the chance to live in such a great country. In this short film, I have more of a personal aspect on it, which was the basis of this project in the first place.

Being a Canadian citizen means a lot to me, and everyone else that is Canadian should realize that we are so lucky to have such a great nation like this. I am proud to be Canadian.
