The Incident

This story is way to good to keep to myself so I’m going to write about it on my blog. It is an insane story and I sure learned a lot from it.

Whistler Mountain, March 25, 2016. It was a Friday afternoon and my family and I went skiing, and I was aloud to bring a friend. The name of my friend won’t be shared, but let’s call him Paul. I invited Paul up to whistler and we had a great time, it was around two o’clock and one of the chairlifts, Symphony, closed down. We went up the chair and down to the one next to it, Harmony. Paul was a very adventurous skier and tended to go out of bounds and do jumps and go through the trees. As we approached Harmony, Paul turned down out of bounds to a nearby trail. I didn’t know where it led, so I kept on the tracks. I was waiting at the chairlift for Paul to arrive, but he never did. I went to ski patrol and told them the situation.

I went up to the hut where I met ski patrol. They were in the middle of a game of dominos when I came in and I introduced myself and explained to them the situation. As I finished explaining the details, I gave Paul a call. He never answered but thankfully, we got his coordinates from my mom. It turns out he was almost a hundred yards down the mountain, near a resevoir. I was shocked. We followed him where he went and one of the patrollers went after him. Since I wasn’t doing anything, they asked me to join their game of dominos. I had never played before and they taught me, and apparently, I was smoking them. Before long, they asked me to ski down to the lodge, where I would meet my family. I had to explain the story and later, Paul arrived. He said it was crazy, and that he had sat waiting for them for almost two hours. He then explained he had to hike up back the mountain. I didn’t get to see it myself, but I’m glad I didn’t. With no phone on me, I would have been screwed if I ended up following him.

From this, I have learned never to ski out of bounds, always report back to ski patrol, and never, ever, follow Paul, under any circumstances.
