The Way we Look at the Renaissance

Europe, 14th and 15th centuries. This was the Renaissance.

The Renaissance was a time when Europe was just beginning, a rebirth people call it. After many years of plagues and all out devastation, the Renaissance marked a time where society grew as one. People became more wealthy and powerful and it was a time where new land and cities were founded. Without the Renaissance, Europe would not be the same.

Our class learned a lot about the Renaissance. Most of this unit was learning about the rebirth of Europe and who inspired the Renaissance. One of our assignments was to create an image, an image of our understanding of the Renaissance’s worldview and our worldview today. This project consisted of lots of revision and critique, but not as much as the advertisement unit lets be real. This image was SUPPOSED to show how the people of the Renaissance were inspired to do what they wanted to do and not just what they were born to do, if that makes any sense. I started with creating a “canvas” on an app called Paper 53. For my first draft, I drew a man looking out at the mountain. This indicated that you can follow your dreams and thats exactly what the people of the renaissance did. Next I drew the three main things that the people of the Renaissance did, learn about science, art and politics. For my image, i drew everything and I didn’t use the internet, which is the first time ever doing that.

First Draft –

Though I was finished, I needed revision. I completely scrapped the first draft and created an image that didn’t look like a torch, according to my mom. I drew a map of England, France, Spain and Portugal and drew a ship. This indicated they explored and wanted to find new land.  I also drew a telescope, looking at the stars to indicate free time and adventurous behaviour. I drew the telescope inpaticular because of Galileo, the creator of the telescope.

Final Draft –

I feel the Renaissance had a huge impact on our world and worldview. Things that were brought up in the Renaissance are still existent today, like discoveries about space, time, etc. This was definitely a great unit to learn and I enjoyed learning about past Europe. Thanks for tuning in!
