As the year is coming to an end, it only made sense for our IT teacher to make a project for us to show what we have learned. Our only criteria was that it had to be something that we were interested in, and it had to be something social for other people to check out. For me, I’m really into YouTube vloggers so I thought that it would be a great idea for the project. Since April was coming up I decided to do something called VEDA, or vlog every day in April. I found that it was a lot of fun, and I found a love of editing videos. Sadly, I wasn’t able to complete the whole month, due to some health issues I had been going through, but it’s all good now! I really hope I find the motivation in me to keep on making videos, but in a much more relaxed way, so I dont have any pressure to have a video finished every day. Here is what I have done though! http://dft.ba/-2NK7

My friend Joseph really needs to start to eat healthier. We were in IT class talking about healthy eating and all that jazz, and checking out Canada’s food guide. What I’ve learned about his normal diet he, like most teen aged boys, eats quite a bit. He was telling me about how he had an instant breakfast yesterday, no lunch, but quite a bit of dinner. It included 4 microwavable pastas, eggs, and toast. But that isn’t all, throughout his day, he likes to snack. Chips, pizza bagel, breakfast sandwich, hash brown, jolly ranchers, ice cream sandwich, ice cream cone, french bread were the foods he ate as snacks YESTERDAY. No other day. Our food guide recommends that teens 14-18 should have 8 Vegetables and fruit, 7 grains, 3-4 Milk and alternatives and 3 meats. Joesph had next to no vegetables, 9 grains but only 4 of them were whole grain, 4 meats, and 18 dairy products. NOt bad, but the food also weren’t that healthy.
Exercise wise, Joesph is pretty good. He play rugby at school which is quite tough. He plays it most lunchs so about 3-4 times a week. Judging by the Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines, he’s doing pretty good.

Suspense in movies is a great way to lure in your viewers to make them much more interested in the story. Of course, you are probably thinking of movies like Jaws and various horror films when you think of the term “suspense” for movies, but there is most likely a suspense scene somewhere in there. Take one of my favorites for example, “The Hurricane”, is classified as a biography movie about Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, and even though it doesn’t have a main antagonist planning to kill Rubin, it does have a pretty suspenseful scene. This scene uses a large build up (not seen) with music leading up, but as the music stops the judge announces his decision. By using the music this way, and with holding information you so desperately want, it makes you sit on the edge of your seat wanting to know the ending.

So a few days ago in IT, we were using a website called Drive of your life to find out what careers would go well with our personalities and interests. Some of my careers included Writing, Editing, Art Director, Investigating, and Managing. I mostly looked at Editing, Writing and Investigating. Although all three are careers that I would love to go into, i personally would like to spend more time in school than needed to be a Detective Inspector, so even if I’m not on the right track, I’ll still quite a few years of valuable schooling. I think out of those three options though, Editing in the job I’m looking at the most. The job area is shrinking, which is an advantage and a disadvantage, it means that although there wouldn’t be as many people to compete for jobs, there would be less job offers. I also like that there are regular hours, because with writing I’m not sure how motivated I would be to keep on writing. But above all else, I think this job is great because I would still be doing english, I would (hopefully) be going over fiction, and I could work with some really talented writers. So out of all of the jobs I’ve looked at on this site, the editing is one that really stuck out to me.

Back to what I want to be when I’m older, we were asked today to talk about some certain aspects that could help decide what we want to be when we are older. The only thing I know about my life is that I want to do something where I can travel, and maybe something to do with computers. I don’t want to be stuck in one place my entire life and I’m not going to lie, I don’t want to stay in North Vancouver. I also do not; do not want to work in a place where I can’t be creative. As for money, that really isn’t a big deal for me. I want to be able to afford a decent apartment, in a foreign city, like London or Edinburg, I see myself owning a car, so that would be something I have to consider, but I think the main part is for me to have enough money to travel. I know for me to be able to afford this, I will need a good job, and therefore I need the schooling. School isn’t something I hate, so I’m not afraid of spending a couple of extra years studying. Another thing we touched on is whether we want to be self-employed or employed by someone else. This one is a pretty hard question for me, because they both seem fine to me and I don’t really have a preference between the two. I also don’t really care about the “outlooks for growth in the occupation”. I’d much rather have my dream jobs than a job that I might make more money at. I mean, if I have a few different jobs that I want, and I like one better, but I have a better future in another, I would probably go into the one I have a better future, because I still like it, and there would most likely be less of a risk.

The news we hear today can be pretty untrustworthy and really out there, so how do we know if we can truly rely on them? This was something we were told to ponder today in English if we were able to trust news reports made in the 21st century, and on a whole, yes. You can get the news from the gossip tv shows, and lets be honest with our selves, the majority of that is complete rubbish. But if you were to get your news from a reliable source, like CNN or BBC, chances are the news you hear is true and recent. So I say, that if you were to check sources like your local news channel, then you should be pretty safe.

If I were asked to choose one item in my house to count as something sentimental value, I would probably first go to the photograph we have of my late grandfather in my music room. I never met him, he died 3 months before I was born, and it’s one of the only picture we have on hand of him at all times. But what makes it even better is the frame. This black and white photograph of my grandfather at work, is framed with pieces of wood from the Burrard dry docks that he used to work at. This photo hold so much sentimental value to both me and my family, that I can’t even think of bringing anything else (except for maybe my first harry potter book). I can remember when it sat on top of our piano in the living room at my old house, and he would “watch over us” as my Nana would put it, and that’s how I have always pictured him. As the Weafer family angel watching over all of us from where ever he may be.

A few weeks back, at the beginning of the year, me and my grade 9 class took a trip down to Seattle, Washington. We went to see the Boeing factory, the Space needle, the EMP and the Sci-Fi museum. It was all incredible.
I can’t go into much detail, for multiple reasons, but needless to say, I loved it all. It was completely perfect.
