In class we started a new unit. The unit is all about the Shakespeare play “Julius Caesar.” To get some background on the key characters we created a paper cut-out of different Romans that are apart of the play. We were also split into groups with a given character to make. My groups’ was Marcus Brutus.
He was a very interesting person. When he was born his father died and so he was adopted by his uncle. After growing up he became heavily involved in politics and later became an emperor. He was also a conspirator on the assassination of Julius Caesar. With Rome undefended Marcus massed his forces and went to take Rome for himself. There was only one problem. Two other armies were also wanting to take Rome. Those two forces decided to form an alliance to destroy Marcus and his army. There were two engagements in which Marcus won the first but then heavily lost in the second. Retreating with only to platoons he decided to commit suicide. Thus ending his life.
For the project we had to only draw things on his body. My group was very good at doing that. First I will explain the ring on his left hand, ring finger, that was to symbolize how he divorced his wife to marry his cousin. Next is the heart on him with the word betrayer across it that is to symbolize how Marcus was apart of the assassination of Caesar. Third is the button on the right of his chest that says #1 Nephew, that is to show how he was adopted by his uncle. Fourth is the knife in his hand that is to symbolize how he committed suicide. Then there is also a crown on his head to is to show how he was an emperor.
