Maritime Exploration is Deeper Than You Think

In the last week and a half, in humanities, we did a maritime exploration unit. We first looked at how the motivation to explore came about. Which includes the Islamic conquering of Constantinople and blocking the Asian trade route from Europeans. This then made the Europeans start to think about going the western way to Asia. After discussing that we talked about the means of exploration. We learned about some of the tools that were invented to aid sailors in their explorations. Next we talked about the results of exploration the good and the bad. After discussing all of those factors of exploration we were tasked with making a museum exhibit about one of those topics that we discussed earlier. My group got the results topic.  Before we started putting together the exhibit, someone came in and talked to us about making exhibits and what needs to be apart of an exhibit. So, based on the presentation we had the criteria was formed, we had to include an interactive element a written element and a visual element. My group started our research right away and we came up with three sub headings,  negative effects, positive effects and overall effects. We then had a couple people start writing the paragraphs for the intro the three sub headings and interactive.

Oh right I forgot to tell you about our interactive and title. First our interactive. We have a mirror and a paragraph beside it saying you are the result of exploration, take a picture or just look. We also have a Instagram page, called TheMenWhoSoldTheWorld,  where you can comment if you think the overall results were positive or negative. We also had a guess the spice board where you can, of course, guess the spice.  You can probably tell what our title is based off the name of the Instagram page but for those who don’t know it is called The Men Who Sold The World.

Now with all that out of the way we had to print out all the visuals and paragraphs. We got these giant boards to put everything on. That look like this.

We then had all the things printed out in “tiles” of paper to then pin and staple onto the boards. Here is what one of the boards looked like when we were done.

We then had the exhibition and we showcased our projects including this one.
