We did a lab a couple of days ago in science. We used copper chloride and aluminium to create a compound called aluminum chloride that would be burned by a Bunsen burner and hopefully create a green flame.
We started out with pouring some copper chloride into a beaker and then we put a square of aluminum foil into the beaker with the copper chloride.
It began to rust and when it seemed to be covered in rust we broke it all up into shards. After that we washed the pieces in water a couple of times we then washed it with hydrochloric acid.
By the time we were done the washs the class was over but other people were faster then us so here is a video of another group burning their compound.
I actually enjoyed this lab because I wasn’t too sure how compounds were made and tested and this gave me a good example of it. Despite not finishing the lab I still got something out of it.
