So, after finishing the first blog post we have to do another, of course. This blog post is about the amazing genre of Steampunk.
Lately we have been reading a book called Leviathan by Scott Westerfield (great book) all about Steampunk and World War One. We read this book because of our beautiful project called the metaphor machine. I won’t tell you much because that’s for another blog post but we have include a Steampunk aesthetic to our project and what better to show our understanding of Steampunk than a blog post.
For this blog post, which is a lot like the last, we had to come up with a question about the steampunk genre. My question is ” What aspects of a book or story make it apart of the Steampunk genre?”
Now this is PLP so of course we have to show our research in a piece of media or presentation. I was going to make a magnificent IBook that includes all of the aspects of a Steampunk genre book but writing a book takes a lot of time and i didn’t have a lot of time, like usual. So, instead of making an IBook I researched about Fantasy, Sci-fi and Mystery books. With those four genres I decided to compare them all to show the uniqueness of the Steampunk genre compared to some other genres.
If you look at the comparison chart it explains the four genres and what makes a book or story apart of that genre. With Steampunk it is very different from those genres. If you were to compare the fantasy plotline to the Steampunk plotline you can see some similarities but Fantasy follows the hero’s journey while Steampunk is about adventure and exploration.
I hope you now have a better sense of the Steampunk genre and would to determine if a book your reading is Steampunk or not.
