Seattle and The Frisbees

At the end of November we went down to Seattle to work on our past unit, Cray Cray Yay Yay. We never officially finished the project but it was meant as a segway unit to get us ready for the Fantasy unit.

On the first day we went to Microsoft which was really cool. We got a tour of the Garage, which is a brainstorming space where employees can try to create things to benefit the world. There are some pretty cool innovations going on there including a compact farm. After touring for a bit we went to go get lunch and then we went to gaming section of Microsoft. Now, being a PS4 Player along with Ryan we felt a little out of place but it was still really cool to see the inner workings of Xbox One and its development stages and the history of it’s creation.

Then for our last adventure at Microsoft we went to the company store where, being the Ultimate Frisbee Maniac I am, I bought two Frisbees.

Now other than the Frisbees we got to go into the employee section of the store where $100 games are $30 and the consoles are really cheap as well.

After that we went to this really high-tec theatre called Cineorama  where we saw “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them” it was actually an alright movie and turned out to be darker than I expected.

The next day we did a lot of things. (Sidebar) For the Cray Cray Yay Yay video project we were given a couple of options to do a documentary on around the idea of crazy ones and why people are considered a crazy one.

My group chose The 12th Man.

On the morning of the second day we went to the MOPOP where there is a 12th Man exhibit where we did a fair bit of filming on site in that exhibit. We also looked at a couple of the other exhibits including the Star Trek exhibit where they had a bunch of costumes and props from the movies.

After the MOPOP we went for lunch and then we went on a duck tour. (a bus that can drive in the water and drive on land)

That was pretty cool, we had a great tour guide who was really funny and I learned some pretty cool things about Seattle. Then we went to the Chihule gardens. That was really cool to see some great glass artwork. I once did a workshop on glass art but mine turned out into a blob while Dale Chihule had giant canoes full of crazy designs.

We also also went on the space needle which is kinda iconic, despite being up there once before it was still cool to the city at night with all the lights.

After all that a lot of us were tired but our teachers had more in store for us.

After dinner we went to this really cool light show. Where this technician controlled these lasers that moved along with the music and, of course, the music was all Lady Gaga.

One the last day we packed up and went indoor skydiving at iFly. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be but still really fun and it was an experience that I will never forget.

After iFly we went to Boeing. We went to the muesuem they have there and I bought a Seahawks hat. Then we went on a tour of the warehouses that they use to manufacture planes.

It was so cool. We looked at a couple of different models and some of the history of the company which was really interesting.

After that we headed home.

The trip was a lot of fun other than the fact that I got sick on the second day and stayed sick until about a week after the trip. I learned a fair bit about the history of many different aspects of Seattle and how it has changed our world.
