This changes EVRYTHING!

How did the renaissance affect our Western Worldview?

Good morning fellow out of the box thinkers, and those who wish to change everything! You could always start change by learning of remarkable individuals (read Venn diagram below) and the time of total change… The Renaissance Era!

Before the renaissance period was the Middle Ages. Here they relied on the manorial system, most of the population were peasants or serfs who served those few who lived in manors. The family you were born into was what decided your fate, your entire life was decided by your last name. On top of that, people relied on other people to tell them things, and did not do much thinking for themselves.

The italian city states were a bit different from the rest of Europe at this time, they weren’t so strict with society, and instead of just following the church, they had some politics to lead them. These city states became the beginning of the renaissance… but why?

because…

Italy was at the center of all the trade routes, making it easier to thrive, and obtain new knowledge from other places in Europe.

The Italian city states had the ideal climate for traveling, and growing things that could not be grown elsewhere. This gave them an enormous exonomical boost.

The Italian city states were one of the first places to not be politically lead by the church. This made it easier to doubt the church, or find things out for yourself instead of listening to others. The society of these states were less strict than in other places, and the politics were mainly lead by the people, (wealthy families).

When others learned what Italy was like, they soon began to doubt the church that had been taxing them mercilessly. The church had been teaching them things that aren’t entirely true, no one knew that at the time though. People began realizing things, like the world is round, and that there are little microscopic bacteria living on you, and everywhere around you.

-flat earth.

Without the renaissance, modern life as it is would most likely not be the same. Democracy came as a direct reaction to the renaissance, freedom of speech, printing, mass production, such diversity in religions, Al Jabr (algebra), acceptance to others who don’t believe what you do.

After learning a lot about the renaissance (as there is much to learn), I made these thought organizers to help me document my learning.

Those visual thought organisers helped me a ton while I was working on the main project for this unit!

The main project was to make a triptych.  Triptych is a type of art originally from the renaissance. It has three separate sections which make sence on their own, but when put together creates an even better impact. Today there is a modern take on the triptych, it’s one picture cut into sections, but all part of the same original picture, instead of being separate pictures. I chose to base mine off of the modern style because it is a perfect example of how the renaissance impacted western worldview.

On the left is how ideas changed during the renaissance. This is represented by how at the top of the stairs is god glowing, this represents people focusing on gods teachings instead of others’ interpretations of gods teachings. There are people climbing the stairs because in the renaissance, society became climb able. Most of the people are in the middle of that section because in the renaissance a middle class formed.

The middle section Is all about how out western worldview was affected by the renaissance. I’ll start with the papers falling from the sky, this I put there because i wanted to address the invention of the printing press. It’s invention has forever changed the earth, it brought mass production, wide spread education, factories,  even potentially influenced computers.  The people have a space between them because of the political and religious splits between people today, it was all started in the renaissance. Through that, acceptance was blooming  then. I fealt it was important to put a little of the stairs into this block too, because society and success is now climb able. Instead of having god shine, I chose for the people to shine to emphasize how the renaissance gave us individuals the right to think, the right of speech, the right of ideas.

The left is how ideas spread in the renaissance. I showed how trade from region to region spread ideas and knowledge throughout with the group of people seeming to be walking far into the distance. I also felt it extremely important to include falling paper, the invention of the printing press made books less expensive, making it easier for people to obtain knowledge, and to get an education.

If before you did not know where our western worldview mainly came from, I believe you may have a good understanding of it all now.
