Slime Molds
So, a while back I heard about this thing called a slime Mold, some kind of weird living slime. I thought that sounded pretty neat, so I did some research on it and this is what I found. So, basically a slime Mold is this weird slimy goo that can move around by itself. It’s actually a bunch of amoebas joined together, not an animal or plant, and was once classified as a fungus, but is no longer part of any specific group.
They come in many different colours and shapes, some growing up to several square metres. More than nine hundred different species of slime molds exist, living pretty much everywhere on earth. Slime molds like to eat little fungi and bacteria on rotting logs or other dead plant material, and are usually found in soil, lawns, mulch, and logs, and reproduce by releasing spores from their mass.
