Hello Blog,
Itโs time to talk about the DI provincials which were a bit different than usual. No one expected as we rehearsed, painted, and learned in preparation for the DI provincial tournament that the entire event would be canceled. Well it was not long after that a global pandemic did exactly that. Despite all of this, nothing can stop PLP and the tournament was held online. Here is the story of everything from our initial plans to the improvising that went into this challenge.
Let me take you back to pre quarantine, my fine arts challenge team is together and preparing for provincials while looking back on the regional tournament. At this point I was participating by providing solutions to problems we had faced during regionals. This includes brainstorming ideas for a clearer story and ways to improve the structure of our backdrop. There was also some research involved. Notes from the appraisers were an excellent source of critique and information. In the process of improving for the future I did many things. Discussion over changes being made, working together on team choice elements and fixing the story are just a few examples. Throughout this process there was a lot of growth in our solution. The story made more sense and the backdrop used artistic techniques. Everything was going well…. and then we learned that we couldnโt do the tournament in person. This came as a disappointment since we had worked so hard, but we were still able to share all our hard work during online provincials. After learning of this we talked about ways our group could adapt to these changes. One big change was going to be not having our props including a backdrop. To solve this problem we gathered some images to use a backdrops and took advantage of the tournament being virtual.
We were able to present a story with a clear beginning, middle and end while also meeting all possible challenge requirements. In the end everything had worked out and most importantly, everything we learned payed off.ย This project gave me skills that I can use to extend my learning. If I put effort into researching and understanding I will get so much more out of the lesson. In this case I had to understand everything from challenge details to how to use virtual backgrounds on zoom. I learned a lot about problem solving. In fact this project tested my problem solving skills more than I ever expected. I had to figure out how to solve big and small problems. The research and understand competency helped me with these skills.
Thats all 4 this post
