Ads, Ads, more Ads

In Humanities 8, we have been learning about advertising, how to make and ad, what an ad is, how an ad works, and the techniques used in an advertisement used to entice us to buy, download, or go somewhere.

An example of an advertisement for a landscaping company.

We started by going over some of the terms and definitions about advertising.

Then we did an advertising photo journal where whenever we saw an advertisement, we would take a picture of it.

A picture that I took of an advertisement for the new McDonald’s app

Then we learned about the 3 main appeals of advertising, Pathos, the appeal to emotion, Ethos, the appeal to ethics, and logos, the appeal to logic.

Deep Cove Business Ad

The main project of the unit was when we made advertisements for real businesses. We got into groups, I was in a group with Jordyn, Izzy, and Luciano.

We called a business in deep cove, but they did not even answer the phone.😂 So instead, we called of Jordyns aunts business, Capilano Builders. We called them to ask them to do an interview with us so that we could have a better understanding of the kind of ad that they are looking for. We each did multiple revisions, I did 3. Here they are:

This was my first advertisement. We got lots of feedback on how we could make our ads better from our classmates. Some of things that they said I could improve on would be to remove the construction-y border:

And to remove the address from the top section of the ad, because it was already in the “Contact Us” section.  They also suggested I made a new layout. And that I did!

I made a second revision with all of their advice, but I can’t find it anywhere, it must have been deleted. However, the differences from revision 2 to 3 are just small tweaks, so I can show you my final revision here:

I’m trying to be humble when I say this: ITS AMAZING

I think it’s a good ad because it has a non-skeumorphic design, it has an title that grabs your attention, has nice photos, and is very clear what the ad is for. But that was just practice.

Oregon Business Ad

When we went on the Oregon trip,  we did the exact same thing as we did for Capilano Builders. Our same group, called a restaurant called the Pig n’ Pancake in Canon Beach, Oregon, asking for an interview.

They said that we would speak to a manager or owner on the day that we eat there, but they weren’t there, so we didn’t conduct the interview. However, we still created advertisements for the Pig n’ Pancake based on information that we collected online. My first and second Advertisement was deleted , however I still have the last one:
