What is mPOL?
mPOL is an SLC.
What is an SLC?
A student led conference. All the students in PLP have to do it and it’s where you show to teachers and parents some of your best work, along with some work that needs improvement and reflect on what to do to improve future work.
So, in Humanities we did a group project where we made an infographic about World Religions. Our group worked on Sikhism I was in charge of putting all the info together into one, well designed infographic. This is the type of work that I absolutely LOOOOVE!
(the finished product of our infographic project)
I love this artistic and visual type of work, and I believe that I’m not too bad at it, which is why I think I was able to manage my time and do this project so well and so quickly. I liked it so much that it didn’t even feel like work. I came home and I rushed to my iPad to start working on it. It’s actually the kind of thing I do on my free time. Now, I had yet to find out that I was about to be in a really scary situation. I had 3 days to research, build a model ion thruster, build a posterboard, and make a stormtrooper costume from scratch out of cardboard. Things didn’t go well.
On the 1st day, I built the model ion thruster. I did it quite lazily, and I didn’t do it well, and I did it so slowly that I didn’t have time for anything else on that day.
On the 2nd day, I realized I was in a really bad situation, and I researched lots, went to Michael’s to get supplies, printed photos and wrote notes for my poster board.
On the last day, I built my costume with the help of my mom. This went on from 3 pm after school, to 8 pm. I also assembled the posterboard. I did quite well with the blog post for the project, and I got some good feedback from some readers in the comments. Here is the post.
You might be thinking, “If he got it done, than what’s the problem?” The problem is that my whole life was Star Wars for 3 days/24 hours a day. I was incredibly stressed out and on the verge of a nervous breakdown and, unfortunately, that passed on to my family causing them to constantly worry about if my work was going to be completed by the time of the exhibition and if I was getting enough sleep.
Now that this was over, we finally did something Science in Scimathix!
We learned about viscosity, which is the speed that a Fluid flows at. This was an example of my best work, however it also revealed a big opportunity to improve. I worked in a group with Sam and we worked very well together. We did our work well and fast, again, because I really liked the work and was motivated to do it. But it wasn’t all smooth. As I was working on it I slowly started to be more and more bored of what we were doing- we had started to do the mat, graph and numbers part of the project. I eventually pushed through. However I did not make a blog post for it and that’s a big no-no. I guess I gave myself the excuse that I wasn’t told to make a blog post but I know that I don’t have to be told to make a blog post. That is what is expected in PLP.
The biggest challenge with my learning is managing my time so that I can effectively hand in my work on time. So, the big question is: HOW CAN I MANAGE MY TIME SO THAT I CAN HAND IN MY BEST WORK PROMPTLY?
