In our latest project, we tested the Laws of Reflection and the Pythagorean Theorem. The Pythagorean Theorem only works on right angle triangles and the Laws of Reflection work on all triangles. Throughout this project we used triangles. Triangles are one of the many connections between math and science.
Curricular Competencies
Questioning and predicting: Demonstrate a sustained intellectual curiosity about a scientific topic or problem of personal interest.
If I’m being honest, I don’t think I did very good on this competency. I got distracted a lot in class and I know that I could have done better. Although I didn’t spend all of my class time efficiently, I did get a fair amount of work done in the time I was working.
Communicating and Representing: Represent mathematical ideas in concrete, pictorial, and symbolic forms.
I am quite happy with my performance on this curricular competency. I think I used scientific procedures to conclude all of my experiments. During the experiments that my me and my group conducted, I precisely measured and calculated everything so that we would have an accurate result.
Applying and innovating: Co-operatively design projects.
I am also pretty happy with how I did on this competency. In Milestone 5, we accurately labeled, measured, and built out laser display. We did how however forget to label the length of one of the lengths of our laser triangle. Other than the one unlabelled side of the laser triangle, I think that I did a pretty good job working with my group on our laser display.
