tPOLS 2023
Hi Mom this is my Teacher (insert teacher name) (teacher name) this is my Mom, Vickie
Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.”
Hello and welcome to this years tPOL, a tPOL is transitional presentation of learning of why were ready to advance to the next grade level. Which is coincidentally the driving question of this post, Why am I ready to advance to the next grade level?, This is the question I shall try and answer throughout this post. To start let us revisit my learning plan
Humanities
For Humanities in my learning plan I set myself for an Extending to achieve that I said I would need support from peers, friends, and family, to bounce my ideas off of. This support was super successful as I was able to get feedback from multiple people. One such example was in the Juno Beach Project we did in Humanities. As for the final product I got feedback from multiple peers. This process was super helpful (yes I am aware revisions are a big part of PLP)
If you go read my Juno Beach blogpost you can see the many revisions I did, to get it to where it is now.
A Humanities project I really enjoyed this year would be Lies and Incongruenices. The main reason I enjoyed this project was the learning we did was very straightforward and easy to understand. It was also fun as I got to learn about Indigenous Issues, something I don’t know a lot about, for that reason, and the fact that the teacher who taught the project was very energetic, these reasons made it quite enjoyable. On my learning plan I stated that I wanted to be more open to constructive criticism, to improve my work. I would say I achieved this as throughout every project we did I got tons and tons of feedback. Below is the final product of Lies and Incongruencies.
PGP
When making my learning plan I didn’t really know what PGP was, beyond that it was a careers block, because of this I didn’t really know what to put on my learning plan other then I wanted an extending. For PGP we did two projects one about marketing and one about finances. In the growth section of my Learning Plan, I put I would like to hand things in on time and early, I would say I sort of succeed as some of my work was a handed in early for feedback but some of it was also late. Below you can view our projects for PGP
For future years, now that I know what PGP is and I now know what I have to do. In future PGP projects I will be prepared for what we do.
Maker
In Maker we did 2 projects, however I centred my learning plan around DI which as it turns out we did not do. But in the growth sections I wanted to improve myself confidence. This was meant to target DI, but it worked out because we did a Podcast Project and a Video Making Project. Both of these helped me grow more confident with hearing my own voice and being more comfortable with presenting my work.
A video we made on our Florida Field Study was a “*PRANKING MY FRIEND AT 3AM GONE WRONG” video which you view below ⬇️
PRANKING MY FRIEND AT 3AM (GONE WRONG)
Going into this video, I was super nervous when making this video. But it turned out ok. I am super proud of this video, yes there is a swear in the video, but its super funny and the bleep makes it appropriate. I am happy with how the video went, and glad that Theryn and I made it.
The FAIL
I had two major FAILS this year one was the winter exhibition final product which you can learn about in my mPOL. My second big FAIL was the Power of Imagination Field Study Video Project. This was a Fail because we did not know the point of our video, we were told several times to make the point clearer and we tried to do that but (as this section is called) FAILed. Next time we have to make a video similar to this. Our group should try to do more planning and be more open to feedback, as we were a little closed off to feedback.
