Spelling Time!

Hey there Cleveland!

Spelling Bee time has arrived!

Before the Christmas holidays, the intermediate classes all were given fairly hard words to study. Most of these words appeared in three written tests of twenty words that were given to the students. This may sound like complete torture, but it is really rather enjoyable, and we do learn some great new words, like “chickabiddy”, “slantindicular”, “astrophysicist” and “timorously”. The students with the highest score in each class made it to the school Spelling Bee, in which the students spell aloud the words they are given in front of whichever students would like to watch (and that’s usually a lot).

Now that may have REALLY sounded like torture, but all of the competitors are always smiling, they all seem to be having a great time, and it’s extremely fun to watch. This will be held next Tuesday in the large gym during Lunch Recess (12:15 – 12:55 pm). Students are welcome to come and watch the Spelling Bee and cheer for their friends and classmates, as long as they don’t cheer while students are spelling and as long as they do not help their friends.

Right at this very second, the competitors (which includes bloggers Kristina and Svetlana)  are meeting with Mme. Power and Mme. McHugh, and are being given the words that they must study.

This is a great opportunity for students to discover their talents of spelling, to challenge themselves, and most of all to HAVE FUN!

  1. Wow, I don’t even have “chikabiddy” or “slantindicular” in two of my dictionaries. Sounds like words suitable for “Balderdash”!

Way to go Kristina and Svetlana! (Can you take your iphone and quickly check the spelling in the bee?)

    Have fun.
