Pink Shirt Day!

Today, February 7th, is pink shirt day for anti-bullying! (A.K.A. As mr. Beveridge says, a day of kindness.)

A short summary of the story…

A boy in a high school somewhere in Nova-Scotia was made fun of , mocked and ridiculed for wearing a pink shirt to school. The next day, a group of teens handed out over 50 pink shirts to people at the school to support that boy!!!! 6 years later, we still wear pink shirts on the 27th of February.

Tomorrow is the grade 7 annual Craft Fair! The grade sevens will have tables set up in the gym were we will be selling our crafts that we made… for you people that come to the gym! The grade sevens will be selling stuff like cookies, gingerbread people, caramel apples, bracelets, earrings, scarfs, Christmas Cards, hand warmers, hot chocolate, and more!

Tomorrow is also an early dismissal at 2:00 pm, which is when the craft fair starts! The craft fair is from 2 to 4ish and the items will probably be under 5 dollars but some might be a bit more expensive.

While you’re there, make sure you check out the projects about a book that mme Simspon’s class read called the giver. They are very cool!

Respect

Hi, it’s Tierra and I’m going to talk about the respect assembly that we had yesterday.

The staff at Cleveland school decided to have themed assemblies every month. The next assembly we are having is going to be about tolerance and it will be on Dec. 13. We had two M.C.s, Lauren and Dylan in grade 7, who did a great job.

Mme Gordon and her class showed and explained attentive listening, then a very talented dancer from her class danced while the rest of the class listened attentively. After, Mme Zwart’s class showed some very awesome skits about what respect is and isn’t.

Two students in Mme McIntyre’s class did a speech about Spread the Word to Stop the Word. The talked about how you have to be careful about your choice of words and to respect people around you.

This assembly was also a recognition assembly for the lunch monitors (Me! ;)) cross country team, basket ball teams and the safety patrollers.

Click here to read Mr. Beveridge’s blog, where he also talks about the assembly

Terry Fox!

Hello! Today it’s just us, Tierra and Yaus blogging because Tarra, Niki and are busy. Since tomorrow is the Terry fox run, I thought that we’d do some research on him for you to read!

Terry Fox was born July 28, 1958. He was a distance runner and basketball player for his Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, high school and Simon Fraser university. His right leg was amputated in 1977 after he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, but he got an artificial leg. He continued to live his life. He also played wheelchair basketball in Vancouver, winning three national championships.

In 1980, he began the Marathon of Hope, a cross country run to raise money for cancer research. He hoped to raise one dollar for each of Canada’s 24 million people. He started at St. Johns,  Newfoundland, and ran the equivalent of a full marathon every day. By the time he reached Ontario, he was a national star. He was forced to end his run outside of Thunder Bay, when the cancer spread to his lungs. He died June 28 1981.

Terry Fox won 1980 Lou Marsh award as the nations top sportsman and was named Canada’s newsmaker of the year of 1980 and 1981. Considered a national hero, he has many buildings, roads, and parks named in his honour, across Canada.

On Friday it will just be Niki and Tarra blogging so we’ll see you next week!

Ice cream social

Hi Clevelanders! We just wanted to let you know that tomorrow, September 13, is the ice cream social. It starts at 6:30 pm and ends at 8:00 pm.  If you’re new to the school and you don’t know about it, the ice cream social is an event that the school has every year, where you can meet new people, have ice cream and delicious chai tea!

Hope to see you there!

P. S.  Don’t  forget picture day!

Thank You Cleveland! We Will Miss You!

Hi Cleveland!

Today is our last blog, so we want to make it special. We couldn’t quite think about how we’d make this special, so we’ve decide to make this blog be GRATITUDE. So this will be our gratitude blog!

First of all, we would like to thank the teachers. All four of us have been here at Cleveland since Kindergarten, and all of the teachers have made Cleveland a very special place for all of us.

We also would like to thank ALL the staff at Cleveland…the monitors, the custodian, Mme. Santarossa (Librarian Extraordinaire) and especially the office staff. The office staff, especially Mrs. Devlin, who has put up with us as we blog, and who doesn’t tell us not to sit on each other, not to do yoga, and not to dance. They’ve all worked so hard, and we really appreciate how they made this school a better place!

Thank-you also to Mme. McIntyre who put together our amazing Grade 7 yearbook! Thanks also to Lilly Yi and Johanna Dipple, who did the great cover!

Thank you to Mrs. Orr, who was a great vice principal and who promoted deep reflection on leadership and community.

And a BIG HUMONGOUS thank you to Mr. Beveridge, who let us blog, who gave us the liberty to do yoga, dance, sing, sit on each other…and so much more! We really appreciate his sense of humor, how he learned the name of every student in the school, making them feel welcome, and how he’s been an amazing role-model to everyone.

Thank-you Cleveland!

Cleveland Elementary School Tour in Photos (Our First And Last Plog!)

Hi all those who DON’T go to Cleveland!

We noticed that we blog about Cleveland all the time (well of course…it’s the Cleveland Blog!), but you’ve never seen Cleveland! So we had the idea that we’d go around the school and take pictures. With the exception of  the library, which was closed, we got pretty much the whole school!

We also noticed that we have about 13 photos! As we mentioned above, this makes this our first (and last) plog (if there can be a vlog for videos, why not a plog for pictures?)!

Here are the pictures…

The Secret Behind Blogging

Hi you, who are reading this blog right now!

You have been reading our last 76 blogs right? But you’ve never really known what its actually like to blog, right? Ever wondered what happens during the creation of the blog? We decided to quench your thirst for knowledge about the blog. So today we will blog about blogging!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!! We are sure you are also VERY excited to read this, as we are very excited to write this.

So. First of all, we walk to Mr. Beveridge’s office (he’s our Principal). Then we enter Mr. Beveridge’s office. The next step is logging on to the computer, which sometimes takes a while since we don’t always know the exact location of Mr. Beveridge. When all of these steps are completed, the blogging begins. Usually, we don’t know what we’re going to blog about when we begin. So we take a short promenade to the front foyer to look for inspiration. When inspiration is found, we go back inside to blog about our topic. What ever our topic is. Then we publish it.

So now you know about blogging.

Oh, wait. There is a lot more to this! Tons of stuff happens while we write the blog. Like keyboard fights. And dance parties. And yoga. And random singing.

So now that we’ve got your attention, here’s what happens while we write the blog. Here are the secrets we’ve kept. HERE IS THE OTHER SIDE TO THE STORY!

So the first thing we are going to talk about is the keyboard fights. So, usually the keyboard fights start with someone either trying to type a word, fix someone’s grammar or grabbing the mouse to Save Draft. Saving drafts usually involves a lot of fake hyperventilating. No, we are not mentally insane. We just have good ideas, we’re forgetful, and we’ve learned to how to deal with this. And that is to write down our ideas before we forget them. So when someone interrupts the process of the writing down of the idea, we get hyper. By the way, no one gets hurt, and the fight is mostly holding each other’s arms.

Another common occurrence during lunch hour in Mr. Beveridge’s office is spontaneous dance parties. This happens when Mr. Beveridge leaves music on, or someone has a catchy song stuck in their head, or there is a cool song on the radio. We usually start randomly dancing, but why not? What is wrong with dancing? It’s fun!!! 🙂

Here is one of our favourite parts of blogging! It is (drum roll please)… the Leaning Tower Of Bloggers! Thanks to the Leaning Tower Of Bloggers, the amount of keyboard fights have significantly decreased! Here is how is works: one person sits on the big comfy chair with cool wheels, one person sits on the person who sits on the big comfy chair with cool wheels, and the third person sits on the person who sits on the person who sits on the big comfy chair with cool wheels. Here is a picture of the Leaning Tower of Bloggers:

Now that is just a typical day in Mr. Beveridge’s office during lunch hour.

Thank you to Mr. Beveridge for letting us be the bloggers and for loaning us his office every lunch hour. We greatly appreciate this! Thank you also to the office for not kicking us out, and to our teachers for not complaining when we miss the first few minutes of class. Blogging has by far been our favourite part of the year, and has made grade seven unforgettable. We’ve learned a lot, and we’ve had an amazing experience.
