‘Working With Words Summative Blog Post’

Another project is done in PLP. Im going to be honest with you. I really did not want to do this project in the beginning. It was about poetry and I really didn’t understand poetry at all. I thought that poetry really didn’t have any real life application. As per usual, I was wrong. Here’s why:

I like to write, but poems I thought? Poems are for nerds! Over the course of the next 3 weeks

We would write a poem everyday for a week. The driving question to this project was How might I construct text that shows who I am right now? This project like many before it, would be about worldview. Now, Ive never really understood worldview. In the past couple of projects that contained worldview, It didn’t really make much sense to me. Ive always brushed it off and thought. “Its probably one of those fancy teacher words that really didn’t mean anything. After this project, I’ve learnt that worldview is actually everything. Worldview is how you look at then world, and its unique to everyone. Its your values, Its your knowledge, its your society its you beliefs, and its also so much more.

The poem part of the project was a little tricky to understand. I mean, back in elementary school I preformed speech art every year, reciting poems to judges, but that was pretty much all the exposure I’ve had poetry. And most forms of poetry are much different than normal paragraph writing. So over the course of 3 weeks I would write 9 different types of poems which I’ve never had any experience writing, about something like worldview, which is just a concept.

I was pretty happy with all of my poems by then end of the project. I thought that I used the concepts we learned in class well to my advantage in my poems. I think the first poem I wrote compared to that last poem I wrote shows a drastic change in my quality of work.

After I wrote my poems, I needed to make a book creator book showcasing my poems. I based My book off one of may favourite music producers; Playboy Carti’s studio album, Whole Lotta Red.

Carti’s Studio Album: Whole Lotta Red

Colton’s book: A Large Amount of Red (the silhouette portait is actually a drawing of me!)

I truly put a lot of effort into this project. Maybe even the most out of any project I’ve ever done in PLP. I don’t even know why I did. From the photo taking and editing, the actual writing of the poems. It all goes down to the fine details. For example, I wrote an extensive about the author page and how to read the book. The about the author page is written completely in third person. The book takes place some time in the future, where the book is being written in memory of my career, but I wont say much more, you’ll have to read to find out.

Was this project stressful at times? Yes. This might have been because of the week delay we had for school, the amount of other projects due in other classes, and me being sick for a couple days really slowed me down. However, this book is not rushed in any way. I made sure to take my time so I could produce high quality work.

Final thoughts

In the end, I actually enjoyed this project a lot more that I thought I would, as I stated earlier. I thought that poems were stupid and pointless. Now I actually enjoy writing them quite a bit. I learned that poems can be anything, and thats the beauty of them. They’re are no strict rules for writing poems. They can seem like they make no sense, but still have meaning. In terms of learning in this project, I said before, my last poem shows a big improvement from my first, I understand all the poetry terms, and techniques as shown by part one of my poetry test. I completed all of the required poems, voice statements, supporting texts and the about me video. Now If you want to check out my book which I highly suggest you do. Is down below. Thank you for reading and I hope you have a great day.
