Welcome back to my blog. Today, we are going to be talking about our most recent project, Romeo, Romeo, Why Are We Still Talking About Romeo And Juliet?
In this project, we created a parody of a scene from Romeo and Juliet. We had almost nor restraints when it came to what our parody was going to be, and each group came up with something different. This was a fun project, and I enjoyed creating our parody and watching everybody’s different takes on the story.this project was originally created for around a 6 week time period, but we only had around 3 weeks to do it, so it was quite an interesting project.
We started out by reading select scenes from the Romeo and Juliet play. We would only read one or two scenes for each act, and after we were done reading an act, we would fill out the corresponding act in our themebook. The themebook was this document that had one table each of the five acts. The tables looked something like this.
We needed to analyze the themes present in the act and support them by finding quotes from the act and explaining how they shows the themes. Filling out the themebook and doing all the pre-requisite work definitely took up most of this project. To complete the themebook, we had to read at least one scene from each act of the play, and watch at least two adaptations of the story. We did all of this in class, but it still took up about 1 and a half weeks of our project. at first, I really enjoyed the themebook. I loved analyzing the themes in the play and filling out the tables with my opinions and thoughts. Due to the short time span we had to complete this project, I felt we were quite rushed to complete all of the work. Once I didn’t complete one table on the day we read the act in class once, it was much harder to catch up. On top of that, i was away on the day that we watched the second half of Warm Bodies, one of our movie adaptations. Again, this made it much harder to catch up. But, I did complete it well, and on time. And then it didn’t save. Being the incredibly intelligent human that I am, I also forgot to highlight my quotes. This meant that I spent way more time on my themebook than I needed to. Although all of my obstacles, I am very proud of how it turned out.
The original plan for this project was to do a film study for a movie adaptation, but since the themebook took a little bit longer than expected, we skipped it and moved straight on to our scene transposition so that we had as much time as possible to make it good.
We got right into brainstorming our video. The only constraint we had is that it had to be a scene from the play and that Mr. Harris had to approve the idea. The scene we had was the fight scene between Tybalt and Mercutio. The idea that we had was to make it a gang war, and have the video be very Monty Python-like and be more funny than serious. After getting our idea approved, we got straight into storyboarding, and once we were done that we got into filming. We didn’t spend too much time on our storyboard, but we had a rough idea for what we wanted it to look like so we just got right into filming. Filming was quite a fun process, and we got all of it done within two days. I think that our video is really funny, and although it might not be perfect production wise, I think it is still a really good final product. You can watch the video here.
That concluded our learning for the first half of the year. I had some pretty great experiences so far this year, and I have found the learning and projects to be interesting in fun. This has probably been one of my favourite projects, and I think that we did a good job for the limited time we had. I learned a lot in this project, with my main takeaway being that staying on top of your work can be extremely helpful for completing work on time and without much stress. Thank you for reading this blog post and have a great day
