Hi welcome back to my blog. This is my summation post on our laser laws project which incorporated a lot of different sciences theory’s and aspects. Our final goal was to create a laser display in a group of four using two laser pointers and as many mirrors as we wanted. In this post I cover the three curricular competencies and how the laser display worked, also I will be talking about what I used to plan the display and the stages of development that we went through to get our frontal design.
Curricular Competencies: in this project there are three competencies 1. Questioning and predicting 2. Communicating and representing 3. Applying and innovating.
COMPETENCY 3
Most of my class time was used for milestone 4, it was the most difficult milestone in my opinion. In this milestone we had to simulate a laser display that would test the law of reflection and the Pythagorean theorem. To incorporate the Pythagorean theorem we had to use it on the one or more triangles to show if they were on were not right triangles. Mine triangles were not.
COMPETENCY 1
I demonstrated this competency while working on milestone 4 and using the knowlage that i had gathered from kahoot and the text book to apply the law of reflection and use the Pythagorean theorem to confirm the type of triangle I had created in the simulation.
COMPETENCY 2
This competency is based on milestone 5 which was our final design of the laser display. The group work very hard together to finish the laser display and extend the design beyond expectations by using 2 triangles and creating an infinite laser triangles based on the law of reflection. 2 other group members worked on the design of the setup while i worked on the lasers and mirrors.
MIND MAP
for my mind map I will be using the same mind start map that I created for the start of the project but i will extend the branches to show the answers to the questions.
BIG IDEA
The big idea for this project/ the driving question was “how can we test the Pythagorean theorem and the law of reflection?” The way I answered this question was by using calculations simulations and experiments. Our final answer to the question came from us building the final design for the laser display using the law of reflecting to help us guide the lasers and mirrors.
DESIGN WORK
Our original thoughts for the laser display were going to be like the trench run from Star Wars. Our main problem with that was weight, the mirrors were just too heavy for the cardboard. We then scraped the standing up idea and put it down on its side. We then realized that we were over complicating things with 6 mirrors. A lot of other thoughts were considered. We came out of thinking and simulating with the law of reflection in hand and got to work.
Thank you for reading, have a great day 🙂
