When my class went to Oregon in October our teachers assigned small groups of us, each to a business in Oregon, and my group was assigned to a business in Washington. On different days each group interviewed their company and then started thinking about ideas for an ad for that company. Similar to the Deep Cove ad project their were many drafts and lots of thought.

On the very last day of the Oregon field school my group visited Northwest Trek in Washington and after going through the wildlife park we were able to have an interview with them. While touring the park I took as many photos as I could so I would have many choices for my ad. One of the photos that I thought was interesting and great for an ad was this photo:

I liked this photo because it showed most of the owl and the fact that it was flying.

That ended up being the photo I used for the first draft of my ad. First, I removed all of the photo except for the flying owl and I also used the healing tool in Snapseed to get rid of the branch. Something I struggled with was finding a background colour. I experimented with different shades of greens then finally decided on a mint green. I added the logo and the website then completed the first draft.

After draft one I received feedback from one of my teachers and some of the things she said was to include less green and to try tracing the owl. The first thing I did was change the background colour to more of a lime green and also make all the words either black or white. After that I traced the owl in black and I got rid of some little specs of background that still remained. The last thing I did was make the logo the slightest bit bigger.

Once draft two was complete I received some critique from a few classmates. For example, I was told to make the owl be seen more clearly. I tried to think of ways to do that but I was more focused on trying to include the forest and animals into my ad. I traced a tree in black to include in my ad but when I put the tree in I thought it would look better with one bigger tree and one smaller tree. After adding the trees the green background did not look good anymore so I changed it to white instead.

For my final draft I looked through my photos again to see if I could find any better photos of animals but with no luck. Instead I had an idea about how to include the forest and the animals. The first thing I did was trace a photo of a bear in black. After doing that I used a photo of a forest inside the bear. Finally I added their logo and a tagline.

During the whole process of creating ads I learned a lot about advertising and that there are many things to consider like what the company wants in an ad and what you want to include and all the thought that goes into doing that. I really enjoyed making each draft and seeing it all come together.
