Why are some people able to see around corners in ways others are not, and by doing so shape how we see ourselves in this changing world?

Hi, my name is Erin. Welcome to my blog. I am a grade 12 high school student in Canada. I am part of the PLP program at my school. We recently finished a video project on the collective identity of the west coast in the entertainment industry. We went on a school trip to Los Angeles to learn all about the collective identity and how some people are able to see around corners and shape the world. Keep reading to learn all about it!

The Collective Identity on the West Coast!

The West Coast has long been known for creativity, innovation, and the pursuit of dreams. From the towering skyscrapers of Los Angeles to the beautiful landscapes of Vancouver, this region home to the entertainment industry, shaping cultural narratives and inspiring generations of storytellers.

In our video exploring the collective identity of the West Coast in the entertainment industry, we delve into what makes this region so special. With stunning visuals and historical insights, we uncover the driving forces behind the creativity and innovation that have propelled the industry forward. The power of storytelling to inspire, ignite passions, and drive societal change. From Disney and Universal Studios to independent filmmakers, each individual and corporation is creating an idealistic society within their films, a world that inspires audiences to pursue their dreams and strive for greatness.

Los Angeles, often referred to as the capital of the entertainment industry, became home to Hollywood, a place where dreams were not just envisioned but brought to life through the art of film. The success and growth of creations like Disney and Universal Studios paved the way for Hollywood’s fame and influence, shaping a landscape that fosters creativity and innovation. Meanwhile, across the border in the north, the city of Vancouver emerged as a cinematic playground for filmmakers seeking urban settings and stunning natural landscapes. From towering mountains to bustling city streets, Vancouver offered a wide range of opportunities for filmmakers to unleash their creativity and bring their stories to life.

Los Angeles Trip!

PLP is a hands on, real world experience, beyond the classroom, program. In PLP we get to go on many trips and field schools built around projects to have real world experiences. Like many people in the program, this has always been one of my favourite extra parts. Not just because these trips are so fun but because they really do help you learn, grow, and grasp the ideas fully. Humans tend to learn best through experience. These trips give us the opportunity to learn through our own experiences. In Los Angeles we visited many places and museums. Sony Pictures Studios, LACMA, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Luna Luna, and so many other amazing places. We also got to go Disneyland and Universal Studios for a few days.

The Driving Question!

Why are some people able to see around corners in ways others are not, and by doing so shape how we see ourselves in this changing world?

The driving question, the base of this whole project. When answering this question my favourite example to use is Walt Disney. Walt Disney has influenced how we perceive ourselves through his creation of iconic characters, timeless storytelling, imagination and creativity, and entertainment. Disney’s characters and narratives have shaped our understanding of universal themes, while his emphasis on diversity and inclusion has contributed to a more inclusive understanding of identity. Through timeless tales of love, friendship, courage, and self discovery, Disney has created a common language to which audiences can relate to and connect with. Disney’s emphasis on diversity and inclusion has contributed to a more inclusive understanding of identity by showcasing characters from various backgrounds, cultures, and identities. Through his work in animation, filmmaking, and entertainment has established the West Coast as a a main point in the creative industry, with Hollywood being the centre. Disney’s presence and influence have contributed to the West Coast’s reputation as a place for innovation, creativity, and production. His work in animation, filmmaking, theme parks, and entertainment, has inspired generations to embrace their creativity, explore their dreams, and find joy in the magic of storytelling and imagination.

Pacific Perspectives!

This is our video we made! Our class made a series of videos about the collective identity on the West Coast, we were divided into groups and each group was assigned a specific topic. I was in a group with Annie and Johnathan. This is our Video about the entertainment industry on the West Coast.

But what sets certain individuals apart? Why are some people able to see around corners in ways others cannot, shaping how we see ourselves in this changing world? The answer lies in their ability to harness the power of imagination, creativity, and innovation to transcend boundaries and defy expectations. Individuals like Walt Disney, with his iconic characters and timeless storytelling, have not only entertained audiences but have also challenged us to reimagine what is possible and to embrace the magic of our own imagination.

Our journey through the West Coast entertainment industry, from the bustling streets of Hollywood to the serene landscapes of Vancouver, has shown us that creativity knows no bounds. It is a force that unites us, inspires us, and drives us to reach beyond the stars.
