🎙️mPOL 2023

Welcome!

It’s mPOL time of year again. In this post I will be writing about my growth as a learner so far this year. I will then be presenting this post to my parents and a teacher in what we in PLP call an mPOL – Midyear Presentation of Learning – while I talk about my growth as a leaner and how I can sharpen my learning plan so I can meet my learning targets by the end of the school year. So far this year, I have only had a PLP Humanities class (no Maker or PGP yet) so that is what I’ll be reflecting on and using as evidence for my mPOL.

mPOL Declaration

“Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.”

What I’ll Cover

  • My growth as a learner so far this year
  • How I can sharpen my learning plan so I can meet my learning targets by the end of the year
  • Humanities only as that’s the only official PLP class I’ve had so far this year

• • •

Core Competencies

  • Will refer back to this lots during this presentation

Personal and Social

  • Personal Awareness and Responsibility

Thinking

  • I was not interested in the provided topics for a story of the BC Gold Rush and I wanted to write about the Indigenous perspective and experience. This showed thinking “outside the box” with corresponds with Creative Thinking Profile 5.
  • Also demonstrated Creative and Reflective Profile 5 because I was able to identify alternatives, perspectives and make judgments to find and use sources.
  • I was able to find sources and find a way to tell the story from the Indigenous Perspective = more meaningful

Communication

  • Before writing my Gold Rush story, I had to communicate with Ms. Madsen (PLP) and Mrs. Yeo (Indigenous Support Teacher) to find a way to tell the story from an Indigenous perspective without culturally appropriating. This corresponds with Communicating Profile 5

Collaboration

  • Romeo and Juliet → workload balance between group members really good
    • Able to efficiently create a storyline, script, storyboard, film and edit in time allotted
    • Profile 5: I can facilitate group processes and encourage collective responsibility for our progress
      • I didn’t have to continually nag for people to do their share of the work, we all worked together and everyone did their work = collective responsibility without needing encouragement.
      • No need for ‘facilitating’ as everyone was just happy to work together to complete the assignment

• • •

Humanities

  • creating quality work in less time greatly improved
  • Need to continue working on expressing my ideas through writing →  the Gold Rush story was a big step in that direction
  • Goal of extending met

• • •

Disposition, Habits & Systems

  • Remembering to take breaks to play with my puppy, Maruka <3

  • effective balancing of school and personal life improved a lot compared to last year
  • work on finding at least one positive aspect of an assignment for every negative aspect.
  • Using Things is working well for keeping track of assignments + deadlines

• • •

Goals for Rest of Year

  • Continuing to develop and improve on core competencies:

PS: Continuing to improve on only spending only as much time as needed on assignments, Effective balancing of personal and school life

T: Participating in class discussions more (answering/asking questions, etc), Finding at one positive aspect of an assignment for every negative aspect

C: Continuing to communicate effectively with peers and teachers, continuation of collaborating and facilitating group processes in Semester 2.

Thank you!
