World war 1 through comics

Hi and welcome back to yet another blog post.

I think I’ve stared 90% of my blog posts like that, wait let me check🤨… yes i do indeed

Anyway…

This is yet another humanities project reflection that we wrapped up only yesterday. This project was all about World War 1

Our final product was gong to be a comic, which did end up happening. I really enjoyed the process but I did end up cramming in the final product and only completing it a few minutes before it was due.

So if you were to time travel all the way to march 13 2022 and walk into seycove you would find out class just getting introduced to this project. The first thing we learned were all the possible causes of ww1. We learned about the failed but eventual assassination of archduke Franz Ferdinand, then we got introduced to the graphic novel we would soon have to; read, analyze and reflect on. The graphic novel was called “ The war to end all wars. World war one”, written by Alan Cowsill and illustrated by Lalit Kumamoto Sharma.

We also got the opportunity to what the amazing film “1917”, one day we just went down to the theatre in ur school and spend the class watching and talking about the story, message, and filming.

Once we all collectively finished the graphic novel, we of course had to reflect. We needed to write down 3 things you discovered, 2 interning things, 1 question.

After the we got straight into the product of our final product.

Our final step would be

  1. Choose a topic/battle to focus on and base our comic around (eg. Battle of festubert, Vimmy ridge, women in war etc.)

I got “Battle of Festubert” which occurred in may of 1915

2.  Submit all our planning documents

Our planning documents consisted of; our story sine for our final comic, five 5 W’s (who, what, where, when, why), story Board, character sheets (for fictional characters)

3. First rough draft in comic (with drawing speech bubble etc.)

After lots of teacher/peer critic, drawing, colouring, planning and revision. we were finally finished with this project. And my final product was this ⬇️

In the end I really did enjoy this project and I learned a-lot. I think I was a bit overwhelmed a-lot of the time with the work load sometimes but that just something i need too work on. I can now confidently say that i know more about ww1 then before. I now have a better understanding on cause and consequence, the weapons/artillery used and Canadas involvement.

I am really looking forward to leaving about world war 2 next year
