DNA

In science class recently we have been look at DNA. That means its purpose, its shape and what it is. And since this is PLP we did this in an interesting way. First we made a DNA cell out of average products. Using beads, pipe cleaners, macaroni and more. We did this in groups and I think ours did represent a DNA well by the way it looked.

Next we did a lab on strawberries DNA. This meant crushing a strawberry with dish soap, salt and water and then pouring it in a beaker with ethanol. This separated the DNA from the strawberry. Then we put it under a microscope and it was actually really interesting to see. And all during this experiment we filled a sheet about what was happening. And we didn’t do this individually I was with Angela and Tyler. This really just showed the complexity of DNA and how organisms are so complex!

Turning chemicals green

Its been awhile but here is a science post on doing an experiment. So in class we did an experiment how a single replacement created a copper metal which when put over fire turned the flame green. Though me and my partner didn’t quite get to the end step we did see other people finish it before the bell rung. But what we did was get aluminum and soak it in copper fluid that burns the aluminum foil into smaller parts for the further steps. Where we take. Aluminum chloride and you washed that out with water to get the clearest solution.

I dont have pics of the flame since we didn’t get that far but this was how far we got of it changing colours.

So even though we didn’t succeed it was still interesting learning about the process and seeing other people succeed.

So bye for now!

Zoomed In

In science we are starting a new unit about the human body, cells and how to use a microscope. So far we have studied bug heads, insect wings and even human blood under a microscope. I thought it wouldn’t be that interesting, but I was completely wrong. It is actually really interesting, kind of gross but also amazing. It is cool how you look at something so simple and plain but then once you look at it closer it is something entirely different with all different designs and patterns. I can’t believe that an object (microscope) that is simply made of glass and metal can do that. Then of  course there is the wonderful teacher who teaches it in such an interesting way. Now enough talking, here are picture of some of the things we looked at.

I can’t wait for the next speciman we get to look at, and study in more depth.

Bye for Now!
