What is an M-pol? An M-pol is a mid year presentation of learning. So basically I reflect on what I have learned from humanities, maker, science and math so far this year( which is a lot! ).
Driving question: How are you going to progress as a learner before the end of the school year?
I’m going to talk about math first, math is one of my weaker subjects I have never been very good at it and that is why I need to take all the help I can get. This year my teachers have offered me loads of help and I never take them up on the offer. I had been struggling on the Pythagorean theorem for a while and only at the end of the unit I got some help. I need to realize that I can hang out with my friends any day of the week but I cant always get help. We have not done too many big math projects this year, we did a project on surface area our goal was to make a section of a door five times bigger than its original size. At first our group had some difficulty’s, I admit I was slacking a bit. Near the end we were all working as a team and got it all done successfully as a team. As you can probably tell the biggest and most important thing I would take from math this year would be to take help when it is offered.
Science is one of my favorite subjects in school. I love looking at insects through microscopes, and learning about different types of diseases. We have done a couple projects this year in science. The most fun one was making a movie on matter, and the states of matter. Sam and I had a lot of fun making the movie, and researching the topic. It took a couple of revisions till it was up to my standards or till I was proud of it. That is one of the examples of taking constructive criticism well and working well in a group.
Sometimes followed by success are struggles and one of mine was in humanities. The Oregon book I just couldn’t keep up with, because when I was in Oregon everything was so amazing that I just wanted to embrace every aspect of the trip and take it all in. Instead I was trying to take the perfect picture and get the right notes, which just took the enjoyment out of it all. What I learned from that was to take some note and still enjoy it, but not just put it all a side and have it all for the end.
Maker is also one of my favorite subjects, the growth mindset unit was definitely the most interesting of them all. Learning and seeing if you have a huge growth mindset or a huge fixed mindset. Which brings me to the religion unit, there are certain religions that aren’t open to anything and some that are. The ones that aren’t open to anything will take in and learn less because that don’t believe there is any other way than theirs. That is why learning about all the different religions was so cool because you see all the different world views.
Procrastinating. Speaking of learning milestones, I had some trouble with procrastination, I thinked it runs in the family. I would always get side tracked and leave things to the last minute, because of that most of my work was rushed and not up to my full potential. Luckily in the PLP world I had revision but even then I did not get them done until I was told, by then it is still not my greatest work. That is when you get that barf emoji from Mr.Hughes. I have been starting to keep track of my work in a journal. Everything that I haven to get done and what I need to get done by a certain date. This will help take care of my procrastination problem, and will make sure I’m done every assignment.
It has been a great first half of the year, the things I talked in this blog post about will progress my learning over the years and I look forward to being a PLP memeber in the future. Thank you!!!
