PLP is known for three things, Performance, Learning, and it’s legendary field studies. Grade 11 was no different, this year we got the chance to go to Tucson, and better yet
Las Vegas. During our time in the desert we interviewed many people, all with incredible stories to tell. Our purpose in the southwest was to use the knowledge we gained through our experiences to create a story in the form of a video essay. Let’s get into it….
… To kick off the project on rearrival the first step in creating a video essay was to write a written essay. My project partner was Zak, and after we created an essay outline we divided the paragraphs based on who was busiest that week. Zak was busier with Science that week so I wrote 3 paragraphs and he wrote 2. Which worked out well because he is a much better editor and has a real editing software program. Our first essay draft was well written but lacked a clear message. Our driving idea was the idea of Vegas corporations using the same business model everywhere they expand, resulting in the homogenization of culture. We initially used Macau, and Dubai as examples, but quickly realized that Dubai was completely different corporations. We instead used Atlantic City, in New Jersey.
Once we had our essay approved we decided to storyboard using notes and highlighting in Notability.
We then used this outline to create the video.
