Recently in the performance learning program we completed our “blue sky project”. We were required to find a driving question about the star wars trilogy and expand on it. We were given a project pitch form where we answered questions about our projects so our teachers could see where we are at and if we are on the right track. For the first few days that we were suppose to get in the pitch from I was worried for what I was going to do and had a lot of anxiety over the project because I hadn’t started.
After a few days, I came to the question “Can I create a menacing villain and a righteous hero by splicing the protagonists ad antagonists from the star wars trilogy”. How I challenged myself with this project is to surf the internet for all the photos that I need to create both characters. The places I decided to place curtain limbs and body parts actually had meaning of where they were. Each limb that’s on the characters was thought through and put where I thought it would be most affective. For example, I put Yoda’s head on the protagonists body because he is very wise and calm and always has control over the situation that he’s in. For the antagonists character I put Palpatine because he outsmarted a very advanced government full of heroes. I ran into a problem that my characters did not look natural, which looked like a five year old cut them out of a magazine and slapped it on to a piece of paper with glue. How I overcame this challenge was using the smoothing brush to blend the photos together.
When the time came of the exhibition I realized that all the time I spent stressing over it wasn’t really needed because it was fairly straight forward and laid back. From this project I think I learned a lot more about the characters and what makes them who they are. I found out new tools on explain everything that majorly improve the time it takes to edit photos. I learned that each character had a unique thing about them that made them very diverse. I really enjoy doing blue sky project because they are more laid back and your in control of what your doing and it gives you a lot of freedom to expand on things that you are interested in.
