The Grade 8 Exhibition was great, I enjoyed preparing and presenting my topic and I am sure that everyone else did as well. Now I will walk you the process from the beginning to the end with my thoughts and a reflection. My topic was how the Kinder Morgan Pipeline will affect killer whales. I spent a lot of time thinking of my topic and I was really engaged because I wanted to fix the problem that my topic covered.
Preparation stage.
I spent a lot of time working on my project, researching was the first thing I did. I made tons of notes on everything that was needed in my topic. Then came the construction of my project. First I worked on my I movie which was the main attraction to my project. After I had finished the I movie I still had a few days left before the exhibition so I mostly helped out my group. The people in my group where Logan, Jesse, Kailey, Raina and Kai, however I eventually decided to have a poster to go along with my movie as I thought it would make it clearer for the audeience. When it was finished, I was all ready to go for the exhibition.
The day of the exhibition.
On the day where we had to present our projects to everyone, I helped clean up the plp room and then started decorating our corner of the room with ocean things and set up my presentation. Now there was a huge problem because I didn’t get a projector, so Logan brought his laptop and because Raina and I were both using it, there was no way of controlling when each video played. It was an endless loop of playing videos, so it was impossible to use the I movie and I was relying on my poster and my knowledge of my project.
It worked out ok in the end and I was able to explain my project well and it was well received by the public. However there was another thing that would go wrong before it was over. Every now and then ms Willemse would take some Grade 8’s out to go see the Grade 11’s exhibition and at one point this left me running 3 stations, 2 of which I know nothing about. While it did not last long it was still difficult to keep all 3 running while Logan and Raina where gone. Soon the exhibition was over and we all cleaned up and went home.
Now I am going to talk about what I think we could have improved on. First of all it felt like ours was not as connected as the grade 9’s or 11’s and each area was too different from one another. Secondly, I think that the technical difficulties could have been prevented if we tested it before the exhibition. Finally, I feel like I should have made something else to go with my project and not just the poster, maybe something like a diorama.
Despite all of the problems, I really enjoyed preparing for and presenting my project and I can’t wait to do it again.
