Last week I had the exciting opportunity to visit my dad’s work and see what he does for take your kid to work day.

He works for Starbucks and often manages almost all of the stores in the Vancouver area. He has a team of people who help micro manage everything that goes on in the stores. I have been to his work before and a lot of people were familiar with me. It was nice having a few people who recognized me and I also got to make a latte in the office kitchen!

I did do some interviews and I think they were pretty good. I interviewed four different people and when asked certain questions they all answered very similary. One of the questions asked them what kind of skills were required to do their job, they all said things like organization and staying on task. If you want to watch the full video (it’s a bit long) it’s right below.

Now I am just going to add a quick reflection about what I could see myself doing at that workplace.

I could definitely see myself doing the same thing that my dad does which is managing stores. I have seen what that job involves as I have gone out with him to some of the stores and watched what he does when he goes to inspect them. I would be good at inspecting the stores and grading the employees as I have had experience in the past with seeing what makes a good barista and what makes a bad one. I would have to work on organization as that is one of the big parts of the job. I think I could also work as recruitment with what I have been told so far about who Starbucks looks for in employees. I think I would probably recruit some good people to join the company.

Overall I really enjoyed the trip and I knew what it was like there as I have been to my dads work before, and while I think that some of the jobs there would be nice to have the real reason I would want a job is… Coffee, there is so much coffee there. Anyway this wraps up another one of my blog posts, see you next time.
