After wrapping up my 4th Blue sky (I’m counting winter exhibitions) I have a few things that I would like to review and I am also going to compare it to my previous blue sky projects.
I think that this blue sky project was better and worse than my previous ones but before I get into that I want to start by explaining what I did for this year. For my blue sky project this year we were split into categories for projects originally by thinking of it like a department store and how we would improve it. I went through a few ideas for what I was going to do and I ended up coming up with my idea while making a sandwich at my house. I realized that I was spending a lot of time walking around and that everything was really unorganized so I decided to use my blue sky project to fix this. I wnated to build something that goes over your sink and functions as a way to keep everything organized. The base was a cutting board and there would be appliances over the top so that we could keep everything in one area. After I came up with the idea (and made my sandwich) I started to draw out my design in sketches.
A while later after getting my idea approved I began to work on a first prototype, this prototype was made out of aluminum and had the appliances on top in the same way as the first one would have them. I brought this into class and had Robin and Kiefer critique my prototype. It was a pretty big success and I got a bit of feedback regarding the placement of the appliances.
I soon began working in the third and final prototype taking into account the feedback that I had just got. The final prototype was made out of a wooden cutting board and had a cheese grater and a strainer, underneath them was two slides that could have bowls fitted to them. When I was finally finished building my project I had to present it at the spring exhibition. When I went to present I had some things that are good and some things that were not as good as they could be.
Some of the things that I thought went really well were the way I presented and the actual project that I brought. When I was presenting my project I thought I did a very good job of explaining what I had made and what it did I didn’t bring a script but that did now matter because I knew enough about my project to explain it properly to people. I also think that my project was well built and was a good concept and could be useful. However there were a few things that I think could have been a bit better. The first is that I didn’t bring anything other than my prototype and some fake vegetable, for my other blue sky projects I had things like poster boards and videos. I think that my project could have had a better presentation if I brought some more things fro people to look at. I also didn’t have the best documentation of my final prototype and have no images or videos of me putting it together like me the others.
Overall this project had its flaws but it alls had some points which I think were better than they were before.
