Our first project of this school year was a recreation project for us to improve our video making skills and our understanding of how videos are made. We were tasked with recreating two videos with our groups, one of them was chosen by Ms Willems and the other one was one we got to choose. We had to try to recreate the videos as closely as possible including camera angles, costumes and audio. Some parts were easy and some parts were really difficult and the outcome of all of them is impressive but mostly a bit “cringey”.

When we were assigned our first video to recreate I was put in a group with Melika and Logan we were tasked with trying to make a shot for shit recreation of Catch: by Joe Hartzler. The short video portrayed two friends playing a game of catch in the park as it tries to parody a horror trailer.

This was a challenging task for my group and I in many ways, the main one was the delivery of the lines. I especially, am not that good at acting and I think that we could have done better if the line delivery seemed more genuine. We did do a good job on the shots that we used from each cut and music.

Another thing that was especially difficult for us was props and costumes as we couldn’t find the exact ones for each shot and we had to film across multiple days and made the mistake of wearing different sweaters, shirts etc. We tried to match the forest park scene in the video by going down to Myrtle and filmed the garage scene almost shot for shot apart from a ups van that drove past their version.Overall I’d say we did our best to recreate the video and almost did despite quite a few flaws.

The next video we were assigned we were given choice with what video we did however we couldn’t decide on one to do so in the end we were assigned one. The video was called A clean kill which featured a vacuum cleaner following a guy around and killing him.

This video was a lot easier to film because of the fewer locations and only one line of dialogue. Logan played the main character while Melika and I filmed and moved the vacuum cleaner around. We had some decent locations for where the shots took place however we messed up a few times by having the vacuum cleaner going the wrong way.

I think that doing this project has helped me improve my ability to make videos and understand what goes into making videos.
