Our first major project in socials was long and difficult and really pushed our video making skills to the limits as PLP 10 made trailers for four different books. In the first few weeks we were split into groups based on what book we wanted to read. I chose to read Don’t Get Caught Kurt Dinan which followed Max and his group of friends as they attempt to get revenge on a group of students who pulled a prank on them. Because I picked this book I was placed into a group with Alivia, Lucas and Daniel. Throughout our reading of the book we were given smal filming and writing challenges to quiz us on our knowledge of the book and to prepare us for the final part of the project.
Before we started on our actual trailers we all needed to some research on our authors before hand to get an understanding of what they might be trying to teach us. Kurt Dinan was an interesting guy who works at a high school and does writing as a pastime. He’s written a few books before Don’t get Caught but this was his best selling book yet.
When we went to actually start recording our project we spent a lot of time thinking about what scenes we should show to get the best effect and show as much as posssible to pull the audience in whilst not spoiling the book. We then had to choose what characters we were going to play. Alivia chose Ellie who was the secret plotted behind the entire prank war from the very beginning, Lucas played Wheeler who was described in the book as “that kid your parents don’t want you hanging out with, Daniel played the main character Max who gets caught up in the prank war and attempts to figure out who he is throughout the book and I played Adleta who was the generic sports player because we were out of characters.
filming took place over a week and we tried to get as many different shots as possible to capture the same vibes that modern movie trailers put out with their fast jump cuts. We made two drafts and Daniel put a lot of effort into editing the video together. I think it turned out pretty well and I am proud of our final product
