for the personal growth plan course we were assigned with a book called “7 habits of highly effective teens” the book covers 7 different points that focus in work, relationships and having a healthy mindset. We were given a small worksheet for part one which had us do a series of reflections on different questions. This actually made me think about some of the pints in great detail and reflect on what I was currently doing about them.
Part one of the worksheet was about the seven habits themselves and what they were if you inverses them. This showed some resemblance between how I currently live and what my current mindset is.
The first habit is being proactive which is something that I definitely think that I need to work on as I wait for people to tell me to do something or until a due date comes to close more often than not.
Habit number 2 is “begin with the end in mind” which is about setting long term goals which is something that this coarse is helping me do.
Habit number 3 is “Put new first” which is about keeping a balanced lifestyle but more importantly remaining on the things that are most important. Another thing that I am working in as I tend to get distracted very easily.
Habit 4 “think win/win” habit 4 is about achieving win win situations wether it be in work or in relationships.
habit 5 is “seek first to understand then to be understood” this is about understanding others rather than waiting for them to try and understand you”
habit 6 is synergize which is where you work with others and play off of each other’s strencpghs as opposed to ignoring and trying it be more independent. This is something that’s really important in projects like DI as there are some group members who are a lot louder than others.
Finally habit 7 is sharpening the saw, where you take time for self improvement. Something that I am also trying to do with my work.
after it went over all of the habits the second part was on paradigms which are the way you think about and see things. It specifically talked about music and what my thought were on it/favorite type. My favorite type of music is jazz and I enjoy it because I use music for background noise while doing other things. Then it asked me to ask the same thing to someone else. I asked my dad who said that he listened to music from the eighties as it brought back memories of his childhood and teenage years. After listening I had my mind changed a bit and remembered a few pieces that made me remember the past.
For part 3 it asked me what I thought my life was focused around, I said school as I spent the most time at school or doing homework and it is always in the back of my head. Then I had to put all of the things I spend time on outside of a circle on the page.
For part four I had to think of principles and put them in the middle of the circle the ones I chose were: hard work, honesty and detail. I said in the following reflection that I looked up to these because they represented something that I wanted to be.
That was the last of the worksheet and so I went back to continuing the book there are still around four more workbooks to do later so I am curious as to what thought provoking questions will be in those.
