We are molded by our experiences, no one would experience change or growth without them and experience happens the best through travel. By traveling, everything you see, hear, feel and understand is not like where you live and it is an entirely different experience to what you are used to. PLP 10 went on a trip to have experiences of all sorts to open our minds for the spring exhibition and our final project in socials 10.
The trip was the longest one that I have ever been on and lasted for twelve days. It was an amazing trip and I had a ton of fun throughout the whole thing. I was very nervous for the first part of the trip however. Because we needed to come up with our driving question on the trip before we got back as well as making a record of the experience in the form of a podcast.
I personally experienced many things on the trip and see Bc in a entirely new light now. One of the main things that I found really interesting was how different some peoples opinions were in comparison to deep coves. One way of looking through my entire trip is by listening to the Circle Bc podcast I made on it. But if you don’t want to look over the entire podcast then I will summarize the important parts in this post.
The podcast mainly features the discovery of the main idea that I wanted to convey for my artifact at the exhibition. While looking at all of the different opinions that I saw throughout the trip I realized that people saw things entirely than in deepcove. That got me thinking about how maybe not everything that we hear from people in the cove is 100% factual and that maybe we should take into consideration the opinions of others when discussing controversial topics.
Making the podcast was a pretty stressful experience as I recorded all of the audio on a 22 hour long ferry trip down the coast of Bc towards Vancouver island. If I could re do anything it would definitely be the planning and recording of that podcast. I wanted to actually record a daily check in, a food review and interviews at every stop but didn’t have the time or didn’t plan it out while actually on the trip. I went into the trip with so much ambition in regards to what I wanted to present and ended up not having the time or energy to meet my personal goals. Learning from my mistakes I do plan on making a big video for next years trip/trips.
As soon as we got back it was preparations for the exhibition. I had a lot to prove as I had quite possibly my best exhibition of all time in December with the Pechakucha I presented. I wanted to up this year and make it even better so I planned a documentary style video to present which would feature the interviews of people in deepcove and their opinions on the trans mountain pipeline.
Things as usual didn’t go to plan.
I ended up not getting the amount of interviews that I originally set out to get as people in deepcove were not really the most willing to be on camera about a controversial topic at the time I was recording and I didn’t leave myself with any spare time. So I put together a keynote presentation on the day of the exhibition and presented my video script and it went better than It thought it would. There was so much interactivity between me and the people I was presenting to during the night. I even found a few pro pipeline supporters showing me that even though the people I interviewed were 100% against it there’s always people willing to argue against that who just aren’t as common.
The keynote mainly themed around the idea of being able to argue for both sides of a discussion and I think people understood it well.
If I could have done anything different for the actual exhibition I would have definitely started sooner as I might have been able to put together my video if I had a few more days.
Ps: last post of the year Grade 10 was awesome!
