Welcome to my portfolio for term 1 in 2014 here you will find all of my work over the past term in flight 9. I made this portfolio by taking the instructions and criteria given, and picked my best work to be put on display for everybody to see. I think my work speaks for itself so here you go.
Month: January 2015
Conclusion
My goal for humanities is to get interested and invested in every project I do and not get bored and go off track. My goal for science is to have a project where I can present all of my knowledge on the selected topic to my audience. My other goal is to be more organized with my files on my iPad. Thank you for reading my portfolio, have a nice night!
Science Artifacts and Reflection
My best project in term 1 science was my genetic mutation project, where we picked a genetic mutation and researched it and then put our work into the format we chose. I chose to put it into a Prezi and that Prezi then went through 2 peer evaluations and revisions and 2 teacher evaluations and revisions. I was quite strong at the research part but I wasn’t as strong at putting my research and knowledge into my presentation so that is what I need to work on for next time.
My strengths in science are gathering and understanding information myself, my weaknesses is demonstrating that I have this knowledge in the form of project or test. My goal for science is to have a project where I’m not only proud of what I learned, but also proud of how I presented it. Doing this project I increased my knowledge of not only this genetic mutation but all genetic mutations and developed my prezi skills. Here is my crown jewel for science. https://prezi.com/zeq4t84eki-j I think next time a big project comes up I will use a different way to present my work because I feel there are tools out there that I don’t utilize that would be useful to me.
This term I worked well in teams and felt like I took some charge and responsibility but I think I should take on more responsibility to be really successful. My organizational skills in science were lacking and that is another thing to work on is to be more organized. My participation in class is above average in my opinion, because I am always ready to jump into the discussion and contribute. My work on science this term was good, but with more hard work it will become even better.
Humanities Artifacts and Reflection
In humanities this term, I did many good works. I was especially proud of my work on my Frankenstuffie project which was a project my whole class did where we created a Frankenstuffie by melding at least three different stuffies together and then we wrote a creation story, and then made a video about the story. I was especially proud of the writing part of it.
In this project I had an idea of what I wanted to do with the creation of my Frankenstuffie and then went through 4 drafts of revision and outside editing to get a final project that I was proud of. In this project I really learned how to draft, and turn constructive criticism and turning that into a positive improvement in my writing skills and the final product of this project.
In humanities this term I feel I was fairly strong in reading and writing but I didn’t do as well on tests because of my aforementioned study habits that didn’t come through when I needed them and I got distracted, also on the book studies I didn’t enjoy the books so I didn’t do as well on that because my interest level was way down.
This term I worked well in teams and felt like I took some charge and responsibility but I think I should take on more responsibility to be really successful. My organizational skills in humanities were lacking and that is another thing to work on is to be more organized.
My participation in class is above average in my opinion, because I am always ready to jump into the discussion and contribute. My goals for the rest of the year is to get interested and invested in every project I work on because if I achieve that goal I will do a lot better in humanities. Here is my crown jewel of term 1 humanities. http://www.blog44.ca/joelh/?p=30
Term 1 Overall ReflectIon
Overall this term, I believe that I have done good work, and showed exemplary work habits. My term in flight has been well spent and full an exciting combination of school work, projects, and real life experience. I think my work and study habits could definitely be improved, right now they are decent, but I would like them to be incredible so I need to work on them. My strengths as a learner are my willingness and excitement to learn, and that when I get interested in a project I really get into it and the work I produce in exemplary. I can take my academic learning to a whole new level this term by getting interested and invested in every single one of my projects instead of just like 1 in 2 or 1 in 3. In this term I have done many good works in both science and humanities that I will show you now.
