Did Napoleon really help the people of France?

While learning about Napoleon, I’ve learned that multiple people have very different opinions on Napoleon. Some people think he was an amazing ruler, and others think he was, well, just not a nice dude. After tons of research, I’ve figured out one thing; no one can decide if he was good or bad. One site I looked at said he was a great ruler whilst another said he was a sexist little oaf. So, I decided to weigh the pros and cons of all that he did, and I’ll let you draw up your own conclusion.

imageWhile Napoleon was in power, he limited woman’s rights to nearly nothing. He did however, greatly improve schools and activated the code napoleon which was created in 1804. the Napoleon code stated that all people were declared equal before the law (this meant that there were no special privileges for rich people, churchmen, or nobles). pretty good right? well, that law only regarded the white males of the population. that’s right, if you were coloured or female, you get nothing. Along with this rule, the code also stated the feudal rights are at an end and trial by jury was garenteed (however napoleons secret police didn’t have to apply by this rule.) Religious freedom was also garenteed. But here’s where it gets sort of weird. not only were parents given power over their kids,  fathers, and only fathers, could imprison their children for up to a month! just imagine that!  your dad tells you to clean the dishes and you forgot, you could be seeing a month in the cells! talk about harsh. this next rule is where it gets really unfair. (sorry i tried to make this unbiased but… well, tried is the key word here.)wives were not allowed to sell or give away property (*cough* sexist *cough*) furthermore, a wife could only own property with her husbands consent in writing.

in conclusion, I believe that napoleon wasn’t the best ruler.Ii understand that he did a lot for his white male population, but his whole population wasn’t made up of white males. think about the women and children!!!

Benjamin Franklin accomplishments

a few weeks ago, we were learning about the American Revolution. I was originally going to do a sort of stop motion video about Ben Franklin but unfortunately that didn’t pan out how I had hoped so instead, your just going to have to read about him. Sorry :-/.

Benjamin Franklin was an    extremely successful man in his life time. He was a journalist, a scientist, an artist, a founding father, and many more. He was a true Renaissance man!

his first accomplishment in life was when he started up his own newspaper and his second, when he married his child hood sweetheart, Deborah read. Along with running a quaint shop that he ran with his wife, Ben also ran a book shop that was quite successful.

Benjamin then continued to create the first comic for the Pensilvania gazette and then, not soon after that in 1731 ,built a library because books were so expensive to buy and were rather hard to come by.in 1751, Ben made a group that soon became the Pensilvania hospital. Fun fact! : both the library and the hospital are still in use today!

In 1745, Ben retired his newspaper business to start following his love of science. Ben created swimming flippers, the heat efficient stove, bifocals, and many more! In the early 1750s, Ben became interested in electricity this the famous kite and key experiment took place.

In 1765, Benjamin was surprised when the stamp act took place and it got him wondering if America should be separated from England. Having many friends in England however, Ben decided to try to start the United colonies and constantly worked to see that happen.

Farther down Benjamin’s time line, he decided that the thing that they needed was the Declaration of Independence. (Which Thomas Jefferson wrote for the most part)

Franklin died on April 17, 1790 at the age of 84. And 20,000 people attended the funeral. Everything Benjamin did was for the people and at the end of his life, he had a lot of fans.
