Hello fellow (hey that rhymed!) humans!! How’s your day going, mines pretty good, thanks for asking. This is going to be a bit of a special post, it’s not about any of my normal subjects, scimathics, maker, and humanities, it’s about a class that I am passionate about. You should expect this, every once in a while I will just put up a random post to spice up my blog a bit and this is the first one!! The first ever blog-spicer-upper!! It’s going to be about…. ART!! Yaaaaa, we just finished a super cool unit in art where we were learning about perspective. Perspective definition: Artists use perspective to show 3 dimensional shapes on a 2 dimensional surface. We did two different kinds of perspective art in this one, one point perspective and two point perspective. I know, super complicated and creative names! You know what, I’m going to make the names snazzy, one perspective will be called Unicorn art, and 2 perspective will be….. tomato art. Perfect!!
UNICORN ART (ONE POINT PERSPECTIVE)
So we started off this unit with the more simple of the two. Where there is only one vanishing point, the point in which you can’t any longer see where the image goes. When I was probably 6, I did an art class with one perspective art, this is what it looked like:
As you can probably it’s not terrible but it’s not the most amazing, which is probably because I was 6 at the time that I painted it. Also, painting isn’t my favorite thing (mostly because I’m not the best at it) I prefer drawing and colouring with pencil crayons. So, the first thing we did to become familiar with the topic is we drew a practice one, everyone drew the same scene which was a city street. The sheet of paper already had a horizon line on it as well as the vanishing point. DEFENITION: A horizon line is kind of eye level I guess, it’s usually where sky separates from ocean or ground. So here was my practice one:
I think it’s pretty cute!! After this practice one we had to decide what we wanted our real project to be. Some people did things like a high school hallways with lockers and stuff or they even just drew another city scene. I wanted to do something that no one else was going to do, something unique. So I thought of things that I do on a regular basis… school (boring, just joking!), walk home, and then I thought of it. The most glorious idea!! I ski, almost every second weekend in the winter, so I drew my perspective project from the view of a chairlift!! It was definitely a challenge because of the chairs, but overall I think it turned out quite well:
It’s defenitleuy a huge improvement from the one I did when I was six.
TOMATO ART (TWO POINT PERSPECTIVE)
This unit was taking perspective art to a whole new level. When we already found the concept of object disappearing to one point confusing, we got our new project. TWO.POINT.PERSPECTIVE!!!(
Well , that actually wasn’t that quick. You can stop watching it whenever you want, it’s just to give you an idea for how I drew this:
This was my rough draft for my two point perspective art project. After this we got a little bit of experience with photo shop. We scanned our drawing onto the computer and then added some funky colours and characters to make it look how we wanted. Here is mine (the first one) along with a few of my other friend’s. I like to call this piece.. “ZERO GRAVITY!!”
IN CONCLUSION….
Unicorn art and Tomato art are awesome!!! Before this year, I always found art a little bit boring. But we did awesome projects with colour theory, line, and, well, perspective. It was different than what I normally do which made it more fun. It’s crazy that these are just the foundations of every single piece of art out there, these are just the first I think I really got into art this year and all of the different concepts and direction you can take in it.
