Summative post Tectonic Chances Game

When we started the project I had so many questions. I was probably the most lost when the groups split up and we had to the think of ideas for our game. I was wondering why we weren’t beside the other group that we talked about milestone 1 about, with the start of the project out of the way i have a few things to say. I really like our finished product, sure there isn’t that many colours and its not to flashy but I still think it deserves a ☀️. I walked around the classroom and looked at some projects that definitely deserve a 🌈, but I still really like ours and if we did have more time I would definitely add some more things to make it perfect.

Evaluating:

I think I have a good understanding of the science terms related to Tectonic Plates. I was actually pretty fascinated in the concept of tectonic plates. I think we also integrated those terms into our game pretty well, we’ve got sink holes which you pay to get out of, we’ve got Tsunamis which take you to a close island, we’ve got shake it up spaces which you roll for decimal numbers to see how bad the earthquake is, and etc. Not all of our game pieces are tectonic plate related, most of them are just normal pieces that me or max made in a few seconds. Our tremor cards and disaster points are somewhat science related but our character pieces and dice aren’t.

Questioning and Predicting:

Why is the inner core extremely hot but melts everything around it except itself, and how did it form at the centre of the earth? How does melted rock have enough force to push giant plates on the surface of the earth around? I know the answer to this question but how are there so many things moving under us and the only way we know about it is earthquakes?

Understanding and Solving:

I think I learned more than used this skill. When me and max were working on the project we ran into a lot of gaps between our game, we anted to make it balanced and fun and enjoyable but it was pretty hard to achieve that. At one point we had to add some negative cards that would be bad in some sort of way, but we couldn’t think of any. We were going through ideas and ideas but nothing clicked, and finally we did get an idea and we put it in the game and the game turned out pretty good.
