The life of Kaden

My t-pol first I would like to talk about how I grew as a learner I think how I grew was better teachers which made me have better work habits I have gotten a significantly smarter my grammar and vocabulary has got better because of PLP and grade 8. One thing I want to show you is my first blog post v.s my latest I guess would be this one but this one is way better than my first one. Next I will talk about all my subjects and one thing I am proud of and one thing I could still work on. Humanities one thing I am proud of is my song for its the end of the worl as we know it we did this project because we were learning about the fall of Rome and that lead to us making a song into our transition form grade 7 elementary school to grade 8 high school. I think I am proud of this song because it really showed my transition in a whole and I spent a lot of time on it and tried to make the song as good as possible but then again I am singing so it can’t be that good. One project I think I could work was a the exploration unit all about the explorers and in the end we had to make a comic with a group members. I think I could have done a better job drawing even though I really really bad I did contribute but a lot of help was needed and I just wish I could have done i with no help one way I could improve that is getting   to know sketches pro better and how to trace feature. Next I will talk about Math, one project I am proud of is was our last math quiz. I think it shows how far I have come with math our last unit was algeerbra and luner equations. Last time I did this stuff I didn’t really get it and I got really confused but I stuck with it and know I pretty much do them with no trouble. One thing I still working on is surface area and volume it is still confusing for me so over the summer I am going to work on it more so next year I will become a lot more familiar with it. Next I will talk about Science the project I am most proud of this year is is our last project the telescope project which I will be presenting at blue sky. So what we had to do was research a telescope answer questions about it then we are making a slide that describes what  is and how it works. Something I could still work on is handing my science work consistently on time most it is but their are some things that get away from me. Next up is maker for maker a project called DI. It is a project that stands for Destination Imagination it is a worldwide thing were students have a problem or a challenge that you have to solve my challenge or my group challenge was a medical mystery you had to came up with a real illness and have a diagnosis for it. Our disease was called witshullstuch it makes you think your really at funny at bad times and is really not that funny. So for our group I was the guy with the disease I didn’t think I did even though I did.     

So in the first picture we have our final scores we came second in the province the next picture is the notes we got back from the judges the third picture you see is while we were presenting in provincials or both are actually. One thing far maker that I am not so proud of and I can keep working on is my growth mindset because like I  can be sorta negative a lot s if I can have a growth mindset i will be able to be more positive. For PGP something I am proud of is my things at the middle of the year my things were horrible I didn’t really use them at all but now I am starting to use them and now I am more organized and on top of things. Something I am not really proud or somthing I could work on would be time blocking I have really never done that and I feel like it would benefit me more so a way i am going to do that is by trying to some time blocking over this summer so for next year i can do it all year. Next I would like to talk about why I feel I am ready for grade nine I feel like I am ready for grade nine because I have grown as a learner a lot this year I have learned way more this year than I did at all really in elementary school I have grown as a person and became a better me this year. I know stuff I thought I would never know Your heart beats over 100,000 times a day.

• It takes approximately 12 hours for food to entirely digest.
• A sneeze travels out your mouth at over 100 m.p.h these are just things I know because I am interested in leaning now in elementary school I didn’t really care about learning or anything but baseball but now I want to learn. Now to end things of I would like to talk about my work ethic and my work habits my work ethic now is I want to do something until I finish it and I will not stop for anything if i am injured fro baseball but I need to finish that game I will I won’t let anyone tell unless i have to. I think part of that goes into school for DI we were running out of days so we had to work on it until it was done non stop until it was done. Now my work habits my work habits are I like to procrastinate but I still get my work done so I am a slower learner I like to think about what I am learning before I go and do it. I am also a hands on leaner I Ike to see in my hands or go out and do it before I do whatever on the iPad or worksheet. Some areas for improvement are definitely staying on task and working on time blocking ways I can improve this are work on it during the summer and when I am doing something this summer stay on task.

My first blue sky. What we had to do for blue sky this year was really create anything that mattered to you and their was a problem with your product so you made it better. What I made was a lawn mower that picks up baseballs. How I got their thought was a long process, the first thing we did was get a launch journal that helped us a long the way. L stands for look listen and learn the thing I did was do the challenge 1,2,3 to help is generate some ideas. I Then we moved on to ask questions for ask questions we had a need to know page were we could ask questions and get them answered we also had our action plan in their as well which is basically how and when you are going to get things done. Now we are at U understand for understand you did your research on your product and made sure you could do it and got more ideas on how to build it.as you can see I put some Ideas their for how I was going to create it and I interviewed Noah and a coach for my brothers baseball team. Next up is N navigate what I did here was a picture on how my lawn mower was going to work how it is going to work is the balls hit the blades and nock them backwards into my catcher. Then it was time to create for create you had to make what you are going to build. Now here  is a picture on how it works.  their you go the blades know the balls into the back of the back of my mower. know  it  is  the night  of  the  exabition so  we  go  set  up  and  then  our  parents  staarted to  show  up  and  we  shared  to  them  how  we  made  it  to  them  like  I  did  to  you.  

Today I will be talking about my final project in Humanities. So basically what we had to do was answer this driving question “ How can we use Shakespeare’s the tempest and the history of New France to stage dramatic tableaus that help an audience understand the lasting effects of colonization. So the first thing we did was we went right into making little tableaus out of nothing to get a sense of what we were doing. Next we were anthropologist we were understanding the ethics of it by being anthropologist. Here is mine

Then we started learning about the history side of things  we were learning about the first people and why they traded with the new comers and eventually we wrote a paragraph on it

 After that we made a skit on what was life like in a colony our skit was about how people wanted to go to New France because they had nothing left they wanted a new life and they thought that if they went their that was going to happen. As we moved more into the history the next thing we learned about was the seven years war for the seven years was we had to answer some questions about the topic so here are mine.

When we were doing all that we were also watching the Tempest and doing active readings which was just pretty much just making sure we were on task and watching the movie. Their were about 5 active readings throughout the play. So now at this point we finished the play and history so we split into 9 groups and each got an act. With that act we had to make a video on our act I had act 4 with Noah and kaiya our video was about 2 characters who tried to kill porspero and then prospero let the dowgs try and kill them. Now we got everything ready and now it was show time we went to the theatre and started practicing. Friday night the big night all of our parents showed up and it was go time the play went really well everyone remembered their lines it looked great.

So basically PGP is a course everyone has to take. It helps you stay organized and stay on top of things. I have found that PGP has been helpful at times. But at the same can be boring at times so the thing we did was goals and that really helped me. But at the same time can be really boring. One of the first things we did was goals I liked doing goals but the long term goals didn’t really help me at all so I went to short term goals and it really helped I could actually go through with them and it was helping a lot.This little thing is a I like to remember every time I set a goal because if you don’t have a plan to execute then it’s just a wish. The next thing was all about time blocking which is about using your time well and wisely I struggled with that but it was really useful when I used it. Also a really useful thing recommend everyone should is things it tells you when everything is due so you don’t forget about it. The next thing was the seven daily habits tenns should use this was the most helpful thing out of everything this year. Like habit 5 helped it is seek first to be understand then to be understood before that I would not listen to anyone. But after that I listen to other people and things went a lot smoother. The next thing is sharpen the saw it is about renewing yourself and in your key areas. For our final project we had to make a time machine sadly not actually a time machine but it had to be something that you could send back to your old self and be useful. So I made an ad that means a lot because it me and my parents relationship was not that good so with the seven daily habits it helps a lot. Here it is it helped me a lot because as you can see it helped me form a better relationship with my parents and family not as much arguing and stuff it has brought us together and made us stronger overall.

Well my first di is over but it was a good but long experience. But I leaerned a lot. After regionals me and my team figured out what we needed to fix and improve to get better scores. One of the things we really improved was are double vision it was not very good at all in our first proformance so we worked hard to improve that. One of the questions that came to was why do we do DI like what is the point after a lot of thinking here is what I came up with. Because it helps us with our team work and creativity and bonding with people and knowing how do work with people. Also how do we handle pressure like if something goes wrong we need to use our problem solving skills to overcome that difficulty. That is why our teachers did that because long experience called DI I think some of it was really helpful for me like problem solving and working together and as a team. One other thing that I would like to talk about is the hardest thing about DI. The hardest thing about DI is the pressure and the deadlines you have to be done by a certain date or you are going to fail so you have to put all of your effort into it. Also your stress level it is hard to mange your stress level when someone says they will bring something but doesn’t for the third day in a row. And provincials are the next day and you have to come up a totally new idea. Also one other thing to add to that is somthing always seems to go wrong right at the last minute. Even though DI can be really hard and stressful it is also really fun at the same time. Like when you find a solution to your problem after all that work it really does feel good to finish that and look back on what you did. One other thing how I feel about our improvements I think we did a lot of improvements with our presentation and I was happy that we did it helped us a lot like changing the double vision and a bit on the script made our presentation very strong. I really think we stepped our game for provincials and I am proud of my team for doing well in all of this. I look forward to doing DI next year.

Today I will be talking about my DI post. You are probably wondering what DI is it is called it is destination imagination it is basically you get a topic or a problem and you have to solve it. My team was the medical mystery their is also a engineering team, a air craft team, improve team and last a game on team. My team had to come up medical mystery my team choose witsullstutch a very rare disease that affects the frontal lobe of the brain and makes you say jokes at bad times. So when I first found I was going to be on the scientific team I thought I did not want to be on this team and it would be boring. But as usual it was pretty fun at first I didn’t understand what we were supposed to do but after my team mates started to explain it to me I thought this could end pretty well for us and boy did it do. So we had to build a sytomatic that was self operated and two team choice element. For our sytomatic we built a wood structure then nailed cardboard to it actually it was pretty sturdy. Then I spray painted it all white then we cut a whole in the top and the bottom, at the top we had a brain that had lights that connected to are amazon alexia that Finn coded. So when we talked to it, it talked back that was a sytomatic. For our team choice element #1 we made a sound track it didn’t go over the best so we plan to change it for provincials it sounded really good but a lot of teams did it so it was not that creative. But our team choice element #2 was really good Angelo coded a heart monitor that was really creative we were the only team that did that so we will use that in provincials. After all that building it was finally time for day everyone was waiting for Di. So when I got their I was scared out of my mind their was so many people. I thought I was going to forget all my lines and fail but I kept saying to myself I can do it even though I completely thought I was going to fail. The walk in was not bad then it all began the tournament began so my team went to get ready make sure everything was ready to perform. After that we went to watch some other performances they were good but nothing to drop your jaw about I think the best part about Di was all the teams supporting each other it was really cool to see and my group did it as well everyone supported Seycove we represented seycove well. Then it was time for performance when we getting ready to go on stage it felt like I playing baseball and it was all up to me to win the game but once I got on stage I just felt relaxed like I got this my team did so well obviously their are things to improve but overall I was really happy with what are team did.

This post I will talk about what I have learned this past unit. The first thing we learned was the book of the lion the book was ok I didn’t personally like it but it was a good thing to read and learn about the events that happened. Next we learned all about the crusades and how Rome fell before we talked and learned about this topic I had no idea or knowledge about how Rome fell and the crusades so it was interesting to learn about it. The coolest thing I learned was the stages of the government. The next task was the litature circles it was basically after we read the chapters the teacher gives us we reflect on what we read the roles are connector, illustrator and  investigator. Here is a picture of it. What we had to do for the investigator role is research something that was in the book then talk about in the sheet. Some things to improve on for next time would be probably for the drawing spend a bit more time on it so it could be better. Using our knowledge we had to make a triple ven dirgram about us peers and experts also our world view. The main thing I learned for this stage of the project would be how much my world view has changed with the transition to high school when you go back and look at your worldview it is pretty amazing how much it has changed.Next we had to create a MindNode on how our worldview has shifted from elementary to high school the MindNode was pretty cool I enjoyed making it. It was so cool to see how my worldview has changed also it really helped me understand my worldview. I like making MindNodes I think they are very useful and helpful. My MindNode was about my worldview about the seven aspects of worldview it really helped get ready for my song. Speaking of my song the next thing was our song at first I thought this was the most interesting thing I have ever done in school. It turned out pretty fun though. The first drat I used auto tune and it made sound pretty dumb so I thought it was good but obviously I had to change it. So for draft two I took out auto tuning and made some lines sound better. For my lines I took my experiences in school that made sense with the seven aspects of worldview I tried to make it funny and enjoyable to listen to even with my voice. In conclusion this was a good and useful unit I learned a lot do I think we had to do a song no but it was a fun unit and it is something that I think about for a while.

Week nine coding the, this was probably the hardest week for because coding is very hard I found out. I think that Alex is a amazing person because he has his strengths and weaknesses but he perseveres through it and does what he wants to do. I think that is awesome, the next part we had to do was coding for an hour it was cool learning about coding but it is definitely not for me I don’t understand how it works that well so Alex I got to give it to you man I don’t know how he does it. The next part was coding in our blog. I got so lost I didn’t know what was happening I didn’t do it for very long because I didn’t want to screw up my blog but I don’t know how coders do it. It is truly one of the hardest things I have ever done.

Hello this is my first mPol so please bare with me.  To start my M-pole I am going back to the very beginning of even thinking about PLP.  My first impression of PLP was that the program might not be for me. But one of the best pieces of advice my dad has ever given to me was that I should just try and get into PLP because it was going to push me and that I would thrive being challenged in school for once. Elementary School came a little easy to me, I really didn’t have to reach too far out of the box.  At first I thought I was not the type of kid that PLP would even look at but my parents kept motivating me. After learning about the program and seeing how cool it was I decided to go all in and see what could happen!  I just threw everything out on the table and then the drive really made me want it! I worked really hard and obviously as we can see I made it. 

Our first unit was on advertising. I think I did a really good job on some of my ads.  As you can see my first attempt was a little plain and the wording was too small. However, my last ad showed I learned a lot more about what a customer would be looking for in their advertising needs.   

The first ad, I don’t like the colours because it really didn’t show the lettering well which made it hard for the reader to read. There was also a spelling mistake on Deep Cove which of course taught me to make sure I check the ad closely!  Here’s what I like about the last one. Its shows the location way better, I think my slogan is pretty good, as well and I added the address and the font that the restaurant uses in their other print material.

Next, I will move to my dream board which I am really proud of because I really feel like it represents me as a human being. I was hoping to show my dream board here however i am having technical difficulties and can’t find a way to do so. This was something we had to do in PGP which stand for Personal Growth Plan.  The purpose of this class is to help us set goals and work on ways to organize our school life and our personal life as well.  The board is help us see our goals and beliefs so that we could have a way to remind ourselves what is important and what I should always try to focus on.  This board is a good way to stay on track when life sometimes has a way of leading us off track.

Now I would like to talk about what was the toughest area for me so far. I am having a really hard time with all the PGP stuff.  I am not fully understanding all of it and all the goal planning. I’m not use to doing it and I don’t really like it. But that is just an excuse so I am going to work harder than I usually do so I can better at it. To add to the topic if of goals one of my goals is to get better at my grammar and get better at writing by the end of the year. Also staying organized and keeping my assignments organized through out the year. Now I am going to talk about my reflection on humanities then Science Math Maker PGP. First of I will start with Humanities, what I think I am doing well is learning the subject but understanding it right away and staying engaged is probably the some of the things I need to work on. But I am proud of Is when the final product comes around I feel proud of it and want to show it. A good example of that would be the Religion unit at the start I didn’t really understand or really get it but when we started to work on it I understood it way more. When it was time to present I really understood it and was proud to present it and had a lot of fun doing it. to continue on my reflection One project I think I am struggling with is the project we are doing right now on the fall of Rome. The project that I think I did well would have to be the advertising project and the worldview/ Religion project. What I think I need to work on is staying on task and staying an gagged. Next I will move to Science what I think I need to work on in science would be note taking I note take sometimes I do but most of the time I put it in my head which is probably not the best idea. I also need to work on asking questions when I don’t understand something I try to figure it out on my own and most of the time get it wrong. But here some examples that I think I am doing well staying on task in science and not drifting part of the reason for that is I like what I am learning so I want to learn more.  I am really proud of this project because I worked really hard did the research and learned a lot. Also what we are learning now on cells living things it’s ongoing unit but I am enjoying it. Some things to improve on for me in science would be not procrastinating and focusing on one thing at a time. Now let’s move to Math I think that I am struggling a fair amount but at some things I understand. Some projects or subjects that I am struggling with would have to be the phthogeros theory I really did not like that unit to fully honest. What I will do better in the future is do some work on my own time and study hard and ask questions and ask for help. For next term I would like to work really hard so I can understand all of it and start to like math because I am not a Hugh fan of math. Next I will talk about PGP at the beginning of the year I didn’t get at all and I thought it was going to be waste of time to be perfectly honest. But after the first meeting I understood why it was a course but I still don’t like it but that it not an excuse I still have to work really hard to get better at it. For an example I would choose my dream board to show my learning I worked really hard on it and I am proud to show it. Some areas for me to work in would be motivating myself to do it and producing high quality work. I would just like to say with the time blocking and goal setting stuff I feel like with the time blocking thing their is a lot of area for me to improve in that. I think I should definitely keep trying it but I would like to ask you guys what do you think I should do to Improve it. For the goal setting I just gotta do it and go though with my goals I think that if I make some short term goals to see the results that are coming in. Once I see the good things that come from goals I feel like I would set some long term goals. 

Now we will we move on to maker Some things to improve on for maker would be asking questions and involvement in the conversation and being in them. Some things that I think would be my focus level when we are doing a task I do it and do it well but I do think that if I involve myself in conversation it will help me understand things way more so I am going to focus on that a lot. One of the projects I am very proud of would be my goal selfie I think that it represents me well and it is a great goal and the only thing left to do is execute my goal and it will make such A Hugh improvement that I will be happy with. My work ethics and habits 

I remember talking about this in the first PGP thing. My work ethics I work hard on most projects and this is a big thing that I need to work on I said I work hard on most projects on projects I love and interested in I work hard and like to work on them. But on projects I don’t necessarily love or interested in I don’t work as hard. I am also a visual learner I like to see things before I execute it. Some things I like about it would be how first of all that was my first time creating my own website and I got an A in the project. But I like how deigned it and how I talked about baseball I think my website looks good. Now he grind finale the questions. Do you agree with how I am going to improve as a Lerner if not how do you think I should improve it. 

My winter exhibition, it all started when we went to all our of the religious sites. They were so cool because you really learned how those regions worked it was so cool. Then we found out what religion what we were going to present. My group was Alex, Rhian, Jude and me and we got Sikhism and personally I wanted Sikhism the most. After we got our religion it was straight to work our group got straight to work on our poster. Draft 1 was not the best actually it was the worst to much white space and did not represent the 7 aspects of worldview.                                                                                                                                            So we had to change it completely so what we did was try to get all seven aspects into our poster here is what draft 1 and 2 look like    This first picture is what our group was going for but then we realized we weren’t going to have enough space so draft 1 here it is.  So basically what went wrong with this draft is WAY TO MUCH WHITE SPACE and not representing the 7 aspects of worldview. So for the third draft we kind of went back to the idea of the rough sketch idea at th top I will let you take a look.  So went wrong with draft is a lot of things still first WAY TO MUCH TEXTTTT! Let’s talk about these awful colour choices. The pictures needed some help to. Now it is our last draft and we finished our poster like a day before the exhibition so we cut it a little close but here is our last draft  I am very happy with this and proud to show this to everyone now let’s talk about what is good with draft. The first thing I really like with this draft is the pictures I think they represent our religion really well the next thing is the text if you look at out second draft text and this one is way better the language is a lot better and we get to the point well so the people reading it does not have to stand their for ages reading it and we can talk to them more. Next was the day of the day of the exhibition when I got to school I was really sacred but as the day got later in I got even more sacred until people came up to me then I was like ok this is actually fun. But before we talk about let’s talk about the set up, so what we brought was table cloth to make our tables stand out also sugar cookies and this drink called lassie which was actually so good. Then we had our photo documentaries and the table if you weren’t their they were photo documentaries which was on all 6 religions we studied and it had to retaliate to the seven aspects of worldview. But back to the exhibition after we were done setting up the doors were open by the way we weren’t really done setting up. My job was to explain about the photos we took and the photo documentaries and it was so much fun I thought I was going to be scared but I was inviting people to my station and having good conversations with people I have never met which is a good accomplishment for me and all I have to thank for that is PLP and I think that is a good way to end this.
