Blue Sky 2017
On June 15, PLP hosted the blue sky exhibition. Blue sky is the year end project for PLP. The goal for this exhibition is to invent a product that will help solve a problem, and has not been invented yet. Out of the following choices, pets, seniors, babies, toddlers, and tweens, we got to choose who our target audience was. I decided to go with seniors.
For my project, I created a coaster to help you drink more water. The way it worked was that there was a little light behind where you put your glass of water. When your glass is more than halfway full, the light is red, indicating that you have to drink your water. When the glass is below halfway, the light is green, indicating that your glass is almost empty, and that you have almost finished your water and need to refill it.
I created my coaster using an Arduino micro controller. Arduino is a small controller that you can program it to do anything you would like. I programmed the controller to make the light red when the glass is full and the light green when the glass is empty. It took me a long time to finish this project. I got help from my dad, because he is an engineer, and he thought me how to use the Arduino. The way my coaster is able to tell if the glass is full or not is by weight. The way I did this was by taking apart a small scale and attaching it to the coaster.
Once it was June 15, it was time to present my project. The way I presented it was by making a large poster board and a behind the scenes video. I was put in the senior section because my project was for seniors. In my group was Sofia, Kiefer, Logan, Luca, and me. Our area for the exhibition was Tim Hortons themed. We had a big banner that had the Tim Hortons logo on it and we dressed up as customers and employees. We also had timbits and donuts, and coffee too. It was a really fun theme.
After the exhibition, I was really happen because it was finished. All of my hard work had paid off.
