Growth Mindset

For our first unit in Maker, we learned about a growth mindset, something we will remember for a long time. For a few weeks, we saw and heard evidence of the benefits of a growth mindset. We watched many videos and took lots of notes.

We were taught what a growth mindset was, why we needed it, and, why we needed to fail. The point of a growth mindset is that if you think you can do something, eventually you will be able to do it. Most successful people have had numerous failures. Studies have shown that kids who are told they are naturally good at something do much worse than kids who are told they should work hard. These kids, and people who think talent is ingrained in us as soon as we are born, have a fixed mindset, which doesn’t help them be successful, as they are afraid to fail. You can train yourself to have a growth mindset. If you were to think ‘I can’t do this’, add ‘yet.’

As a final project, we set a goal that we will complete in the next year. We placed it on a selfie and will print them and put them on the wall to remind us of our goals. This is mine.
