Science Time!
This term in Science we focused on Atoms/Matter, The Periodic Table, and Bohr models ! We specifically focused on Ionic and Covalent bonding and then made a project out of our atom knowledge.
We took notes in class to start leaning what everything means!
One of the first things we did was make a mind map of what we knew about all these topics. Here it is….
And then we made one after the unit, here it is…
So, im going to breakdown the project we did. It was a group project and I was with Lucas! We first had to choose 2 elements from the periodic table…
We chose Chlorine and Sodium. Next we had to use our knowlage on Ionic and Covlent bonding. What are they you ask? Well..
IONIC BONDING is a chemical bond formed between two ions with opposite charges. Ionic bonds form when one atom gives up one or more electrons to another atom.
COVLENT BONDING is also known as a molecular bond, and is a chemical bond that means two or more atoms are sharing electrons, and become a pair like Sodium Chloride (what me and Lucas are focusing on in our video.) The Covlent bond is a stable balance of attractive and repulsive forces between atoms.
We then took our Ionic and Covlent bonding knowlage and made this video called an Ionic Love story. Its about Rex the Sodium atom and Vanessa the Chlorine atom. Here it is!
Overall, I enjoyed this unit and learnt a lot!
