What is my Canada, what makes up my Canada, what helps to create my Canada. These three questions helped me better understand what my Canada is. Surprisingly, these questions are also probably some of the hardest questions I have ever had to answer, at least with some form of time limit. Even though, they might not be as important or as high on the list as some other questions like; who am I, What Is my purpose, and of course the frequently asked what are you going to be when you grow up, they still can really get you thinking.
When we were told to make a my Canada video I was a little bit surprised, and a lot bit scared. As some of you might not know I have only been in Canada for just over four years. This is compared to some of my friends and classmates lifetime. Though hearing that two “My Canada” represents were coming to our school wasn’t bad especially since they were bringing pizza. The part that really started to frighten me was when they up front asked us to tell them what my Canada is. Luckily they gave us examples of what they thought My Canada was so I was able to get ~inspired~. When I got home I realized that I needed a more creative, deep explanation for my question. My original explanation was “all the opportunities I could have in Canada”. To look deeper on the matter, I had to think of something we all hold close to us that’s when I came up with what I was going to bace my video on, family.
My first idea for the video, was to make an animation based around my ideas. There was one complication when I was using the app Animation HD express. Since the app itself cost six dollars, I decided that it is probably a better idea to use the free or express version of the app. In retrospect this was definitely not a good idea because in later research of the free app I realized that there was limitations to the amount of frames and amount of animations you could create. This and other problems led me to ditching the idea of making an animation. Another main problem I had with making an animation was the amount of time it takes to complete one. Before I decided to ditch the idea I had only made five seconds worth of animation.
My final idea was to create a poem to express My Canada. I was going to add video of Vancouver, and a nice audio soundtrack. This worked perfectly since my grandfather was in town and we had plans to go to the Vancouver art gallery, a fairly scenic root through the forest and the city. At home I edited the video using the apps iMovie and Quick. In the end I was able to piece together an creative video that might win the prize of three thousand dollars.
