We started week five with a group presentation on Tuesday. In this presentation, we were asked to reflect on a specific period and how it could answer our inquiry question. I found this sub-project incredibly interesting because I researched a topic that I had never considered before. This topic was anti-feminism in the 1970s. When I first delved into this topic I had no idea how pertinent it would be to the play we are studying in class, “The Taming of the Shrew,” by William Shakespeare. The anti-feminist groups in the 70s focussed on religious morals that relate to the Elizabethan era. This is the main connection, the role of the husbands and wives play in the household. As we finished “The Taming of the Shrew,” I start to understand that the play could be interpreted in two ways. The first way that it could be interpreted is through the lens of a man who is providing commentary on a women’s role in society. This perspective is mostly based on our current worldview and opinions on women’s rights. A much more realistic representation is, Shakespeare is a man of his time,  believed in a wife’s role and portrayed this role to his audience. Although…. Shakespeare didn’t necessarily play the role of the husband, considering that he left his household for years at a time.

Now that I have finished the play, I finally get a chance to reflect on its narrative. As we start to write our essays I am sure I will find this reflection to be very helpful. I’m interested in how this last section of the project will pan out, considering that we only have a week to do a fair amount of assignments/milestones, and in my other classes I also have a similarly rigorous schedule.
